Should be.

Don't delay on getting that sucker fixed, it could blow at any time and cause you to lose control of your vehicle!

Is it a Cooper tire BTW? I had a bubble on a one month old Cooper Tire and it was replaced.

I am sure that'll covered under manufacture warranty.

That bubble won't be covered. The service guy is going to tell you its from hitting a pothole and try to charge you 2 bills for a new one

Man these streets in the DFW area suck, My brother just replaced 2 tires on his I30. The reason being the bad streets and they caused 1 large bubble on the sidewall on 2 tires.

That woudl be warrantied as much as a flat tire would. It would only be covered if there was a manufacturing defect that caused the bubble. If you hit a pothole you are stuck with the cost of a new tire. ~$ 200. Sorry

Question from a newbie:
How do you tell whether the bubbles were caused by hitting potholes or manufacture defect ?

Dam $100-$135 for Michelin MXM4 Pilots is cheap. Is it a new tire and where are you getting that price from? I need one for a spare rim, let me know

If the dealer replaced every tire that had an impact break (bubble), they'd be out of business.

It's from hitting either a pothole or something laying in the road which caused the steel belts in the sidewall to separate, causing the rubber to "buble" out.

It's not covered by any warranty, unless the dealer wants to do you a favor and handle it.

bubble on the right

Funny how I had the SAME exact thing happen to me about 2 months ago. I had 17K on my tires and talked to tire company about a replacement. They told me that it would probably not be covered under warranty as they suspect that I hit a curb or pothole or such.

So I took it in anyways and sure enough, it wasn't covered. However, they had a guy who just replaced all four of his stock TL-S tires and I got the whole set for $30.00 each. They are in excellent condition and I consider myself lucky to have found a used set of these tires.

Good luck with your purchase! I know Discount Tire Center was going to charge me $230 for a new one installed.

Re: Tire has a bubble

I went to michelin dealer, they are assuming I hit the side. And they said it is not warranty item. I have 3 bubbles. And I think I will be change all of my tire to something else. Michelin sucks!

Hey Dallas, definitely go see another service advisor or another dealership, cause I know you can get it replaced under warranty..Just dont tell anyone about hitting that pothole, just say it happened on it's own..Trust me, just keep your story straight, and you'll get that free new tire.

got it done at Discount Tire for $210 all in (which includes 8.25% state tax). The tire was $177.

The guy told me that he sees a lot of the Type-S's with bubbles, something to do with the actual shape of the wheel....

Damn those tires are expensive. I just paid $176 shipped from TireRack for a Dunlop SP9090 in 225/40 18.

I had the same thing happen to me at 7,000 miles, I hit a pothole, and got a bubble.
I replaced the tire with Dunlups, all the way around,
So if you are interested, I have the remaining 3 tires stored, (I figured that with only 7,000 miles on them, why trash them)
If you need a tire,I can let you have one at $100, U pay the shipping.

I had a bubble on both of my two front tires, I called the dealer they told me to call Tire Kingdom. Went to tire kingdom the guy called Michelin and they gave me a 50% credit for the purchase of 2 new tires...so I got one for free. and I bought the replacement warranty from tirekingdom for 10 bucks so if anything like it happens again it will be replaced. By the way...I have 9300 miles on my '02 TLS.

Late,

kegrun

I remember hearing somewhere that the city in which you hit the pothole could be responsible for paying the cost of a replacement tire. Try looking on your city/town's website and see if they have anything like this. It is after all their responsibility to fix those potholes (thats where part of your tax pay dollars go!!)

Dont know off the top of my head which thread I read it in, but I'm pretty sure it was on here!

Good luck.

take it back to the dealership and bring a copy of the Michelin Warranty book with you (It was provided with the owner's manual)
