Question Tinting rear window over dot matrix

Tinting rear window (one piece over dot matrix)? Got pix?

Okay. So i went to get my car tinted and when I returned the tinter did a great job on the tints, except he cut off the rear at the dot matrix (3 to 4 inches from the top) and said if he went over it it tend to fog or moist up. He's going to cover it up with black vinyl ?? I don't know how that's gonna match my shade.

I went with solar gard HP charcoal 32% all around

Just another thread that mentions black vinyl.

My installer applied something over the matrix to fill in the space, let it set up, then tinted over it. It looks great with out the normal tint over matrix look.

No i dont have pics sorry. im out of town (plus the car hasnt been washed in 4+ months)

I tint for a living www.cjshades.com

The black vinyl will look allright. Those dots are a pain in the a$$. There are tricks to tint them, but I usually have to have the customer come back after a few days anyway to touch them up no matter what. The black vinyl saves plenty of time. Those back dots alone take about an hour to get right. I try not to do it, but even I lay vinyl sometimes. they may just not even be able to do it. It is pretty hard, but easy if you know tricks.

i used a interior auto paint. and painted over them. i used the template from the back of the tint and tarped the inside of the car then painted about 10-12 coats. looks great.

I just want my tint looking as clean and natural as possible. Can't but be bothered it's not one whole piece cover the dot matrix. I'll see how it turns out.

Any suggestions?

ill try to get the pix up. when i sprayed it out it matches on the outside but the inside is black. i have a light interior so it is noticable but i think that it looks good. and you can spray the last coat the color of the interior. if you go to flickr.com and search for TL you should find some of my pics in there. its a dark blue TL. it looks really nice and you cant notice it. i have had a few friends do it since i did it and it looks great.
i would send you the pics but im on a work computer and they have that site blocked. i get off at in 20 min i can send them to you when i get home. 10 min to get home.

My installer (LA Tint) just tinted over the dot matrix, nothing special done ... looks fine. I've got 38% Ultimate Formula One tint. If cops around here weren't so strict about tint, I would have went with 28%, but thats below the legal limit.

The air bubbles present in the pics right after it got done pretty much disappeared after
Pics from the first day or so after I got tinted: http://www.ryanshomepage.com/gallery...uraTL/TL_tint/

I dont have any closeups of the dot matrix specifically after that ... but you can look at some of my other pics to see what it looks like ...

i sprayed it with interior automotive paint. i bought it from my tinter. $11. you should be able to get it from any paint store or maybe even like a car parts store. im sure they have it. use a black paint for the first coats untill its completely covered then if you want to change the color of the inside switch to a different color.

Installer was too lazy to remove the rear deck ... I'd recommend pulling it out yourself before you bring the car in to be tinted. He told me it was because its illegal to tint over the brake light, but that light isn't even connected, it just sits there, cuz the one on my spoiler is the brake light.

you know how hard it is to take that out. it takes like 30 seconds to take it out and undo the wires. its more of a pain in the ass to tint around it. your tinter is an idiot.

O well ... He did a great job on the tinting itself, so I don't really care.

No air bubbles, and the dot matrix looks fine with the tint on it. The tinting was done almost 3 years ago and there's no problems with it, no peeling, no discoloration, nothin.

yes, he tinted teh whole window and even behind the 3rd brake light. there was enough space to slide teh tint behind it and smooth it out without having to take it off

hey LiQiCE,

saw your car on your website...nice lookin' ride. what is the size of your tires on the TL-S rims? they look wider than the OEM 215/50 tires.

They're the OEM Michelin 215s. Same with the ones on my TSX rims.

I just had mine tinted with 35% on Friday morning. That is the legal limit in TN. I have never had tinted windows before in a car. I must admit that I feel a little pimped out/ghetto, but I happy I had it done. I am not big in mods for my car. This was probably the biggest one I will ever do. The only other mod I may do is upgrade my brakes the next time I have then worked on which will be pretty soon.

Dont feel pimped out especially with 35% thats barely tiniting. Ive tinted all my cars and when I got my TL I knew I wanted to go dark. Next time try 20% you will love it!

I'm getting tinted this Thursday. I asked about the dots and they said they sand them down some to make the area closer to the rest of the glass. They say they do it all the time and it turns out good. I'll see soon

i don't know how accurate this statement is, but other post regarding sanding the dot matrix has lead to rusting of the area.

I agree also. I got mine tinted right over the dots a few months ago (18% LLumar) and it looks great. I just made sure the guy knew I was going to be anal about it and he really took his time and it looks very good. I dont like the vinyl strip IMO
