cool.. if the tint is illegal what are the usual penalties involved. i live in jersey and i want darker tints.. i have the legal llimit right now 35front/20rear, but if i went for 20 all around.. how bad would that be?

avg. cost of ticket, removal of tints, what else could the po's do?

To remove will cost around 20-30 bucks for the 2 fronts in the bayarea but the price is different in different area. As for ticket, normally they will give you a fixing ticket which is 10 bucks, you have to get it striped and get it sign off. However, they can also give you a non fixing ticket which is around 90 bucks, you might not have to get it striped but that depends on the mood of the cops. Act nice in front of the cops if you get pull over, most likely you will get a fixing ticket.

there are usually 2 kind of tints. One is the chorcoal film which is the regular dark one and the other one would be reflective one (mirror look). I have 37% relfective one on the 2 fronts and i have no problem seeing out at night. The darkest film is around 5% which is limo tint, that you will have trouble seeing at night.

What is the best process/procedure to clean the interior windows that have been tinted?

And what cleaning agent do you recommend?

i have an '00 tl with navigation.... what kind of tints affect the navigation signal and which ones dont??

i am looking for dark tints around 20% all around- either black tints or mirror reflective tints.. and if the mirror tints are possible, i am specifically looking for the SILVEr mirror tint... not the greenish shade that is on the lex RX300... i have a silver TL so i guess silver mirror would be best- probably 30 or 35% for mirror and 20% for black...

thanx man

Dont ever use anything that has ammonia base. I just use plain water to clean my windows.

I also have a 2000 TL with navi. I use the reflective tint all around with windshield and i have no problem with the singal for navi or radio. I say you go with the silver tint, it will look nice. But just so you know that relfective tint gets more attenion and that goes for cops too.

i will go with silver tint but not too reflective since you are just going with legal. It will look nice since that matches with your rims.

That is just too obvious and the cops can ask you to roll up the window. Just act nice and dont try to hide anything because if you do, you are just asking for more troubles. No offense, the cops arent stupid. What does that tell them when all the windows are down once you get pull over? Especially during winter?

Jlmugen, thanks for doing this. Here is my question: Is the 3M film really the best as people advertise.

3M products have been around for awhile and i wont say its the best but i can say it is one of the best. However 3M films are pricey. As for window films, sologard, lumar, suntek or johnson are as good, they all come with lifetime. I guess it depends on what kinda of brand you like.

Or the two front windows. I don't think the police can say anything about your back windows being too dark, which is the reason that most people go for darker in the back.

I've always had good luck with Lumar films. I have an '01 Laguna TL and was wondering how smoke film would look on it versus the reflective. What do you think for this color car?? It's kinda greyish bluish greenish.

I like my Llumar 30% Titanium tint. Has a nice hint of silver that looks good on SSM Acuras.

Silver cars should go with light reflective tints.

My understanding is the rears can be painted black if you wanted them to... as long as you have two side mirrors...

Lumar tint is good too but not a lot of tinters like to work with them because they are hard to work with.

According to the cali law, nothing is legal on the fronts and the fron windshield. However, if you go with anything that is 55% or higher, the cops cant even tell and you can still feel the differenece under the sun. I have 50% sologard film on my front windshield on my TL, parents, and family members, and none of us ever got pull over.

Sorry, my server went down a few hours ago, but now I am back.

I have a company here that wants to do my 2002 tl for $175. He said he will do the dark 5%, but wont waranty it. He said that the 35% is plenty dark enough because the 3M is thicker than most other films. Is that true? and is $175 a good price.

Why he wouldnt warranty 5%? I recommend to go around 15-20%, thats how most of the suv look at the back half. You still get thr privacy during the day and it wouldnt be too hard to see out at night. I dont know the living standard over at your place but $175 here in the bayarea is consider cheap sicne the minimum wage in SF is around $8.50. If he doesnt waranty the film then you wouldnt know what is he giving you because the cheap purple film is really cheap. Ones that he can get it off from ebay. So make sure that you know what you are getting, besides the quality of work, the material also plays a big part too. You dont want your tint to turn purple after a year and start to bubble. Doing it right the first time and you will never have to worry again.

In Florida my bro paid 120 at a high class detail shop for 20/35 tint on his maxima, on my silverado it was only 90 bucks for the whole thing....not strip though. To me 175 sounds like too much moneym but going 5% will be illegal and they will not give a recipt or warranty for the same reason...Typically they do charge more for illegal tint, a friend of mine just paid 150 for 15% all around at a sound shop no recipt under the table deal....so I would not pay 175, but then again it is not that much money though...the cost of a tank of gas difference so...

Yeah, I thought $175 was a little high as well. I am going to keep shopping. I will take your advise and do the 20%. Thanks for all your help. Peace.

Also keep in mind that even if the tint you install is legal in your home state, you can still get pulled over and ticketed in another state if the tint's illegal there.

To a degree, you can't get pulled over for another states laws if your passing through. And if you do, just politely tell the officer you're passing through. If you live there and have it done in another state, than what you said is true.

It would be absurd to try and conform to each states laws that you may drive through, let alone know what the laws are.

I agree, just wanted people who travel into other states frequently to be aware of this. They might decide it'll be less of a headache to tint to the most restrictive regs.

I have heard of that before and as long as your state is legal to have tint on the fronts, for example Nevada allows to tint the fronts up to 35% and if you go another state and you get pull over, show the cops the registration and that proves you are a resident of Nevada then you can get away with it.
