Plan on getting tint for my 99 TL, and Illinois state law states that it is illegal to have the fronts tinted, but I have seen many cars with it. What do you think is the darkest I can go for the fronts and get away with it? Could I still go 15-20% all around? Also, give me your opinion, so basically I want you to tell me what to do with my tints. I've heared certain tint % don't match well and I want an opinion on what looks good soo....do tell.

if the tint on the fronts is a then you wont get away with 15-20 on the fronts for long. Are you sure the front side windows are illegal and you arent talking about the front windshield? I run 35front 20 rear and it doesnt look out of place

 

Ninety9 is right. You can't get any tints on the front sides for Illinois. I've heard from multiple tint shops that most people who want to get away with it go with 35% all around. I'm gonna go ahead and get 35% for the fronts and 20% for the backs.

 

humm didnt know that. Id stick with at least 35% on the fronts.

It sucks that what you want to get noticed for looking nice is seen by cops in the same aspect. A fellow civilian driver goes..."Hey thats some sikk tint. Nice." Then the cop goes..."Hey, thats some ghetto ass tint. Lets pull that sucker over." lol. Sux big time..

 

its illegal because the cop is supposed to be able to see whos in the car for his own safety. also to see if theres any illegal activity going on. i think 30-35 is too light if you want privacy. in ny you cant have darker than 30 in front but i have 15's. i got a letter from my dermatologist saying i cant be exposed to direct sunlight for long. i dunnno if it'll work but its better than nothing.

 

I'll never understand why people get the front window tinted..... :shakehead Why make it harder to see??? If all the other sides are tinted than you can barely see in the front anyway. I love KY, front sides are legal to tint. I have 20 all the way around and it looks really nice...
When you go to clean it, make sure that you use a cleaner that does NOT have any ammonia. Thats what turns tint purple... Also when you clean the rear, make sure you wipe in only one direction, with the grain on the cuts they put in for the defrost.... Good luck..

 

i live in il and i got 20% all around on my 00 tl. havent had a problem yet. even though it is illegal. and the loop hole is get a perscription from an eye docter. say that the sun bugs you and the tint helps.

I was concerned about the getting the front sides tint, im in Chicago so thats why i didnt do 20% all around, but i did get 35% done all around, and mines is a 2000TL black on black, so it looks awesome like that. So far I love it, i got it done for about $140 and the guy did an awesome job.

 

I went ahead and set up an appointment for a place in Kenosha WI next thursday. I'm going 35 on the front sides and 20 on the back.

 

i got mine done for free. did it myself the side windows arent hard. and the back was already done.

 

Workn it out with shop called CarSmart, which offers the brand Diamond Automotive Tinting...Going with 30 fronts and 5 backs/rear window...may change my mind for a 30/20 tho...what u think?

 

30/20 is prob best. I have 20front/20rear and i can hardly see median strips at night. It looks good though! Kind of a trade-off. I wouldn't mess with the fronts. Maybe just tint down to the AS-1 line on the front at most. It would look kinda chessy that way on a TL though IMO.

 

Do you guys have the back window tinted all the way to the top? When I picked mine up, it stopped about 4" from the top where the black dots are.....

 

I have 5% all around my car. Here in California, front windows are illegal to tint. But I figure if I am going to do 15-20%, i'm going to get pulled over for it at some point anyways, so I may as well go all-out with 5. Just my logic.......It's been 6 months....just be careful......

 

that 5 attracts more attention tho. and mine has the 4" w/o tint on the back too. its cuz those dots. its easier to leave it. cuz tint on it usually looks bad.
