Tint at Dealer

I still have not tinted my windows because I don't trust that the local shops will do a good job on the rear. So I was wondering do dealers tint windows? This way if they messed it up it would be easy to make them redo it.

As far as I know most dealerships do not do the tinting themselves. They usually have a shop in town that they get all their work done at. There is a shop here in town called the Specialists, one of the best I have ever delt with. All the car dealerships in the area take their cars to them to do the tint, stereo, and alarms. See if you can find out which one your dealership uses.

i agree the tinting is outsourced to a tint shop, but you will end up paying more than you should...it's up to you if you think it's worth it. however, you can just as well find out what company that is and go directly to them and kinda mention that the dealership "referred" you to them to see if you can get a discount...make sure you find out the normal rate first! i wouldn't worry though since most tint shops these days offer lifetime guarantee on fading and bubbling...fading is not a problem if you get the metallic tints (dyed will fade for sure!), but the bubbling part is key. so find a shop that has been around for many, many years because your guarantee is useless if they go out of business.

but if you meant the matrix area on the rear windshield, you might want to go into detail first (if they acknowledge the problem, have come up with fixes, and if they are willing to redo it numerous times) before you choose your shop.

If you live in So Cal...San Diego...try Tint Devil. They were great and have been around for a while.

When we bought our car, I asked the salesman how much tints were and he said somewhere around 450 bucks!!!! However, he did tell me that they hire an outside contractor to do the work. Just find a good place in your area. You might pay an extra 30 bucks or so but at least it will be a good job.

The dealership that I got my TL at does their own tinting because every car they sell is tinted.

I paid $200 for metallic SunGard Tint...
Non Metallic would have been 160 -- both with lifetime warranties -- both by Eclipse Tint
