Testing 2002 TL HID ballasts using a car battery
Testing 2002 TL HID ballasts using a car battery
I have a 2002 TL HID ballast and bulb. I was wondering if connecting the ballast and bulb directly to a battery would be an okay way to test them. When I've tried this using other ballasts, the bulbs lit up without a problem, but for some reason, nothing happens when I do this using the TL ballasts. Any ideas?
This wouldn't damage the ballast, would it?
Aren't the two wires going into the ballast just a positive and ground?
Thanks.

It's kind of dangerous but if you're careful you should be okay. Make sure you have a good pair of glove on. When testing, make sure also that you have the polarity correct. I found in the past testing the HID retrofit system this way, if I switch the wire, the light won't come on. If you plug everything in and knowing your battery is good and switch the wire around but your light wont' come on, then it's either your ballast for the HID bulb is gone...in this case, there is nothing you can do except getting replacement. You might want to swap bulb/ballast around too to determine which one is the bad culprid. Good luck.
try switching the polarity ,,,when i first did a after market hid kit i had the wires switched the bulb lite for a quick second but then went out but then i switched the wires around and it came on.. .. apparently the ballast i had a phillips had polarity protection built in and nothing happened to the ballast .... so i suggest tryin that first if not then like someone else had suggested try a good bulb in the one that would not lite.
