Question TCS light came on??

I was driving hoemtonight and my TCS light came on. As I was flying down the highway I shifted into neutral, shut the car off, caosted, and then turned the car back on, my TCS light went off? what the heck? has anyone else had this type of problem. I just had a trannie service two days ago so I don't think is it that but ...... any ideas???????

I guess there is not really a problem if the light is off now but I am just curious if this is the first signs of a future trannie problems?? The trannie is shifting beautifully after my trannie service and oil change ($60CAD total) so I don't think that is the problem but who knows..........anybody........

Brilliant

Perhaps you just turned it off by accident reaching to open/close the sunroof.

pretty sure I didn't accidently put it on, but I DO have to get my alignment done, do you thid that if the steering is off a little it could trigger the TCS light. I know that alignment being off will wear the tires unevenly??

Extreamly smooth actually. I had two passengers in the car and I had to tell them what I did, they didn't even notice, I barely noticed, the stereo didn't go off or anything. I have actually been driving in D and (thinking I was in SS) push the shifter foward to shift up a gear, in I went into neutral. So what did I do? wait for the revs to get back down to normal revs, pull it back into D, and look like an idiot. Starting off the line into the top of first and then putting it in neutral and reving the gas thinking you were going to fly into second! I am guilty of that a couple of times as I'm sure I'm not the only one.

With regards to shutting the car off and then turning the car back on. I didn't turn the key all the way to shut off the power steering, brakes or lights just the engine.

Not to get off-topic regarding your original question, but isn't the steering and braking powered by the engine?

Anyway, I just don't think it's a very smart idea to shut an engine down at highway speeds (or any speeds for that matter) if it wasn't an emergency. So much can wrong to you and to the cars around you. I'm really not trying to preach to you, rather just voicing my opinion on the plethera of stupid things that people do while driving. Would it really have killed you to wait until after you got off the highway and at a stop to try to make the light go out?

Do what you want to your car, I just hope I'm never around you while I'M driving my car.

ya I found that a little odd when I read it too. No one in their rightful mind should shut the car off, especially at highway speeds. Your brakes are powered by your engine, and you will have no control of the car. IMO I would shut TCS off, keep on cruisin, and wait until I stop next to diagnose the problem. Not while cruising over 100 km/h on the highway, and with other ppl in the car...not a good idea dude!!!

actually the power brakes and steering are not powered by the engine. THat's why you don't have to start the car to turn the wheel back and forth at a stand still, just put the key in and click foward. So the brakes and the steering STILL had power.

The roads were perfectly empty but I undersyand the concerns....point taken..

:lol1:

So the power comes from...?

You're confusing the power assist and the basic mechanical operation.

Of course the components will still operate, but have you ever driven a car that doesn't have power brakes or power steering? Trust me, it's night and day. So while you'll still be able to steer & brake, the car won't respond any where near how it does when those two functions are being power assisted. Try it sometime... in an empty parking lot... alone.

Again, sorry - I'm not trying to preach. And I'm certainly no expert on this subject. However, my common sense skills keep me from trying stunts like this. Do what you want, when you want - but please educate yourself so you're aware of how your car is going to resond when you decide to shut it off. Who knows what other key comopents are compromised when you turn the engine off.
