TCS and Check Engine Light On....?
TCS and Check Engine Light On....?
While driving today the TCS and Check Engine Light came on at the same time. I looked in the owners manual but it did not describe this condition. I pulled over and shut off the car when I started up the car and the TCS light went off but the CEL was still lit. I was going to reset the ECU tomorrow. I have been working on older Honda's for awhile (backyard mechanic) and never touched my TL. Does the ECU have a visual led to read the CEL codes or is this all done by the ECU reader systems (Handheld diagnostic computers)?
Any idea of what could be the problem? Thanks

I have had the same issue (TCS & CEL) lit at once several times. According to my Acura service dept., this is caused by the CEL calling out a code that the main computer feels will impact the TCS as well (go figure).
My understanding has always been that the only way to get the diagnostics out/reset was an OBD II reader/module. Usually about $125 on the 'Bay (or check around with your friends or AutoZone - they may let you borrow one).
Good luck.

That is usually a sign of the tranny failing. Did the D5 flash also? Are there any hard shifts? If it is then don't worry cause your tranny is covered for 7 yrs/100K miles.
BTW, sure fire sign of tranny slipping: tcs on, cel on, and d5 flashing! Don't feel bad cause there are quite a few 02+ TL-S being affected. And to make you feel better, 99-01 are also affected but not as much.
