tbelt question

ok, i have 106k something on my car and now I wanna to travel to NY before I do the next tbelt change. I was wondering how risky it would be. distance is about 4000miles, so when i get there it is going to have about 110000. I owned it since it had 87000, prev owner was some girl and I drove it with kid's glove (no hard acceleration, no speeding etc) since the purchase.

I had mine done at 122k, first time change. You will probably be ok. What year is the car?

You should be fine. Time does more to these belts than use really. Ive got 180,xxx on the original belt, 2000 model. Not the smartest thing I know, but regardless it hasnt failed yet. I'd definitely change it when you got back if you're worried about it though.

Just a FYI, but a broken belt will cost you several hundred $$$ if not thousand and then some, depending on what RPM it happens. When I had my belt changed, the mechanic screwed up and got it out of time-torqued the L cam bolt out of sequence and bent 4 valves. (that was 1/2 RPM can you imagine a 2500+RPM grenade?) It ended up being ~2500 for the job. I paid 626 and change, the shop ate the rest in addition to rental car fees.

While impressive on the mileage...I would change the belt just to avoid big $$$. Good luck.

I'm paranoid like that too, if you're gonna change it anyways might as well do it ahead of time. For most shops it's a one morning turn around time depending on how busy they are. I changed mine at 110k which is around when I bought it.
