taking out rear window
I am tinting my car and when I get the sides finished first I am gonna need to tint the back window.
Does anybody know how to get the rear window out without messing up the rubber seal???
I imagine first that you disconnect the wires going the the rear window defroster, then you slowly work at the rubber seal holding the window in. I remember doing this on my truck which was very easy. I am using 14% quantum tint. I will post the pics of it soon!!! I need to take the rear window out so I can do the entire window PERFECT
Does anybody have any clue on how to take this rear window out without messing up the rubber seal or breaking the window????
THANKS!!

you dont take out the rear window when you tint it...you trace it from the outside and then once you have it cut from the outside, you apply it on the inside of the window...thats how my tint guy did it...btw the rear window is held on with urethane adhesive...just like the front windshield...you need a pro to take that out...they cut off the molding first, then they get a special knife that fits in tight spaces and they squeeze it in between the window and the frame and cut along the whole edge of the window...its not something you can just take off and on...

O.G.
My tint guy also traced the back window from the outside and applied it inside.
BTW, I strongly suggest that you don't try to take out the back window if you don't know what you are doing.

Taking out back glass for tint??? :wow: Are you serious??
If you really need to take it out, take you car to the AUTO GLASS shop and have them remove the glass. And make sure to put BRAND NEW back glass moulding when you put the glass back. (I am sure glass company knows).

Hey AK, first of all, why are you trying to tint your car by yourself..Take it to a tint shop and let somebody with experience tint you car..Also, i wouldn't repeat to anybody outside of this board that you want to take your window out for tinting, because your gonna sound like an idiot..Taking a window out is serious work and i dont think you have the experience or tools to do it, unless you own an auto glass shop..Just take your car to a tint shop and do it right. If your still set on tinting yourself, you must be able to tint that back window without taking it out, and if not, then that is a sign that you shouldn't be tinting the car by yourself.

LOL ya DlCKS
I have tinted vehicles before, I am a perfectionist, sorry but the rear window is coming out, I always take the glass out of my rides when I tint them. I don't like to roll up the window or something and see a small line of tint where they missed. I like knowing that my windows are tinted even below where you can see them down in the door!!
I don't trust anyone with my car but me, so thats just how it is.... The other windows are almost done, I just have to trim the edge of the glass after they dry for a couple days
the rear windows coming out and I'm tinting up to the matrix then putting vinyl on top of the matrix. Rear windows are not held in with glue, it's held in with a moulding. Other cars I've tinted are very easy to get out(thicker moulding) but I just wanted to ASK if you guys had any suggestions to take it out, obviously you don't.....
you guys hurt my feelings LOL!!

Taking out the glass is just plain stupid. My windows are tinted and I don't see a damn tint line when they are rolled up. You just need to find a good tint shop. I have had several cars tinted and not once did they ever take out the rear window. You can do just as good a job with the window in.

errrr, ahem... excuse me here....
I have had my rear window replaced in my TL and i can assure you its held down with Eurothane adhesive, not just a rubber trim molding.
The more amazing thing here is that although you said you have done this on every car you had, yet you are still asking people on this forum how to do it. Moreover, it seems to me that if you are a true pefectionist, you should get yourself some silica, some pigment and a big blast furnace and mold yourself a new piece of glass with the tint baked in (like the rear windows of a Blazer or Cherokee for example.) A perfectionist wouldnt even dare consider the option of applying a film over the glass; that would just be taking the easy way out...!
so this makes me wonder whether you are just putting us on, or whether its was 4:20 :smokin: when you originally posted to this thread.
Just wondering...

I dont trust anyone with my ride and want to tint it too. Perfection is the only option LOL. Removing glass is best but I would be to afraid to remove the back
