Tail light gaskets / Water in trunk

I've read up on the issue, and I have water coming through both of my tail lights.
I called the stealership, they want $20+/- per gasket.

So, being the penny pinching DIY'er that i am.. I was curious.

Can i just put a bead of silicone sealant all the way around where the body contacts the gasket, and bolt it back in? I don't see why it wouldn't work, it's not like it moves or anything.

I asked my dad, he told me to quit being cheap and do it right.

Anyway, your two cents are appreciated, I'll be back to collect them.

Hey Bob- yes you can take the taillights out and clean up the surfaces and put a bead of caulk/silicon around the contact area and put it back together. I have done this on numerous Hondas/Acuras with success. Just use some waterproof silicon like for windows etc.
You can get new gaskets at the dealer, but honestly the silicon works fine and its hidden so its not like you can see it.

Yeah, dad's are usually wiser with age and experience !!!

If ya insist on attempting the cheap ass ghetto fix..... crawl into the trunk of your car at a local car wash and with the deck lid closed, inspect the tail lamp area for signs of leakage after the silicon is applied. Ya never know when ya may get lucky. Please deposit .02 cents at the tone.
