Here's the thread]

It is very interesting. Numbers suggest that there is a VERY low occurence of the problem with CL-S and TL-S's .. The problem is even less common on TL-S's in their analysis although the numbers may be skewed here since the TL-S was out less time than the CL-S when the analysis was run.

It also describes the various modifications made to the tranny at different points in time. I have modification #1 and #2, but not #3 or #4 which involve the ECU times and getting more lubrication to the 3rd gear clutch pack. If your car was made after February of 2003 then you should have literally ALL of the modifications made to the tranny and the chances of a tranny failure for you are probably a lot less. In addition, it notes that frequent shifts from 2->3 and 3->2 are very bad and result in a 380C temperature reading in the 3rd gear clutch pack! (However, a tranny cooler or the like will not help this because it is a LACK of ATF fluid in the 3rd gear clutch pack that increases the heat, not the ATF fluid itself being too hot). Some simple conclusions made is that when driving in traffic to use SS or gate shifting to control your 2->3 and 3->2 shifts and try to minimize them.

Its a long thread but a VERY good read.

I don't seem to find the thread, although I'd be very interested in reading it since I have a 2002 TLS.

16K miles, so far no tranny problem... but I'm just counting my days. It would be nice to see what Acura has determined as the culprit(s) and how they have resolved the issue... (if indeed they really have)

The article is over on the CL forum in the Tranny problem section.

I don't know if it is OK to post a link...

My experience
A very interesting thread. Just to add to what others have experienced, I had mine replaced at exactly 40,000 miles. I had changed the oil and we noticed that the transmission fluid was very dirty. We flushed and changed that. After the change, I noticed very rough (chatter) shifting between 2nd and 3rd gear. Of course, the dealer didn't notice it, but, based on my experiences and just on my mention of the dirty transmission fluid they put a new (not refurbished) transmission and ECU into the car and I had it back in two days.

Thanks HOOP03TLS ... I underlined the link now since I keep forgetting that the "new" ATL.com doesn't automatically underline links. Hopefully that will make it easier to find

The link still doesnt show up underlined for me.

The real issue is because the links arent different colors than the rest of the text, so it all looks like message text.

This is sortof off the topic of the post, don't you think? Try searching for the word STONE and you'll find more information here and on acura-cl.com ...

STONE Headers are based on the same design as the Comptech / OBX headers and were being sold through a groupbuy on acl.com for $400. Right now the only place you can buy them is through Nashua_Night_Hawk in his groupbuy on acl.com or the various other places where people are doing groupbuys on them ... But like I said, do a search on them and you'll find much more information on them.
