Post Suggestion re "No Links" rule

I understand the problem with links, promotions, etc. However, I already see some serious restrictions on the free flow of information here. Is there an alternative to locking up the threads, like posting a disclaimer, or having everyone sign a TOS disclaimer in order to register. I mean, this forum is all about products, how good they are, where to buy them, and where to get them installed, etc. With a zero tolerance rule on links, this site is going to evolve into nothing but complaints and OT.

Went over this problem a while back... was even banned for arguing too much... just accept it, any fighting will be useless... these forums were a lot more fun 6 month ago... now it's just a little bit more than the boredom city... but once again noone will listen(I mean noone who can change it)...

Tsk Tsk Tsk.....The forum is in fact a LOT better now, there are more members, and OT had 1 page of archives...have you checked it out lately? it's more than 12 now! what does that tell you? I am 100% behind Tim with his policy. Bear in mind, this isn't the only site that enforced this rule, it's the same policy on many other sites, as Tim's noticed, including myself. Just respect his wishes and enjoy yourself! Besides, are you paying money to browse this site and to ask and learn about info? NO! so get over it!

You think so? Is that why after you ran into trouble you've been posting more than you ever were?

LOL... someone has to keep this site interesting...

P.S. 6 month ago I was here for 4 month and posted about 750 times... in the last 6 month I've posted about 450 times... that comes out to be about 190 per month before and about 75 per month after...

I personally agree with Tim's views. Tim is a very very hard worker and deserves respect for the amount of time he has put into ACP.com and acura-tl.com. I think it would be an insult for anyone who is a regular to this site to not support Tim. He has provided not just a great service that allows us TL owners to gather, but he has also pooled many resources together that allows us the best quality parts at the best possible prices. He is not out of line and if you don't agree with his philosophy (not mentioning any names) please go elsewhere. You insult me and other friends of this site by not supporting Tim.

P.S. Stylin-Can you try not to push "show signature" every time you post? it's kinda sorta annoying seeing your car every other post...No disrespect, of course, your car's the bomb and all..but I CAN'T STAND LOOKING AT IT EVERY TWO MINUTES!

SC TL,

I think its probably wise just to go with the flow. If you look at Tim's rule it only pertains to other sell and transaction-based site so it won't impact us that much. However, in your defense, I also thought that a disclaimer would've been effective but I realized the restriction wasn't that 'restrictive.'

Ed, in your odometer poster example. How does a "NO MORE GROUP BUYS OR LINKS TO SALES SITES ALLOWED" prevent that? And to your comment on paying for information. To the best of my knowledge, just because we don't pay for it doesn't mean we can't raise suggestions. This is a forum based on its members. This site and its members would be nothing without Tim. However, this site would be nothing but a bunch of acp ads and carprices.com banners without us. Blade cuts both ways. SC TL is just bringing up a suggestions...no need to get all "Tsk Tsk Tsk" on him.

Talking

I think this site is as good as it ever was, if not better.

I'm very grateful to Tim for having created this site. For me it is an opportunity to make some new friends. I've meet Blackshadow, SlickTL, J83, AdamYankee, StreetEffectz and alot more people on the board, who has the same interests as me. If not for the forum, I would not have meet these great people and we would not be friends today.

Now back to the issue at hand...I don't think the policy is at all "zero tolerance", it is simply saying we can't put links to other sales sites and no more group buys on this site. Does it mean we cannot buy from other sites, no! Although i couldn't imagine going anywhere else to buy parts.

Guys just lighten up and live with it!

This policy is not zero tolerance, it is just banning sales website links. You can still discuss new products, good or bad dealerships, which products are good or bad, or anything like that.

This policy isn't that bad.

Shoofin',

I just want to be clear that I am not knocking Tim at all. It's gotta be hard running his business and running this board, and I think he's doing a hell of a job with both. Also, I think the board is extremely informative, and I have been here for only a few months. However, I would like to continue post or read posts about places to get mods installed in So Cal, other places to buy mods, etc., which dealerships provide good service, which are assholes, who has the best deal on TL-S, etc. A zero tolerance policy would restrict this flow of information. If a disclaimer or TOS were possible, then Tim could insulate himself from the B.S., let the information flow, and let the reader sift through the B.S. instead of the moderators.

Just my .02, and just exploring an alternative.

It's not necessarily "Zero Tolerance", it's just Tim doesn't want to have any problems...There was one poster who asked if anyone knew about winding the Odometer back on his car...nobody gave him an answer. First off, that's illegal, secondly if by chance someone happened to know just how to do it and posted it, I'm pretty sure that Tim would be in a lot of $hit, and this site wouldn't be here today.
Example: I was listening to a radio talk show. Someone said they wanted to kill the senator...The show host told him to take it back or else FCC will be on his a$$..guess what? FCC took a copy of the tape, traced him, found him, and arrested him, whether or not he was joking. Now, if the FCC can do that, I'm pretty sure there's someone lurking the web for illegal acts and trying to prevent and reprimand those that are trying to. Understand what I'm trying to say?

Ed,

I remember that. That was one of the first times I can remember Howard getting really serious, pleading with the guy to take it back. It was kind of spooky.

SC TL,

Just leave it alone, OK?
