Subwoofer Installation

Hello, I am new to this website and just recently purchased a used 2001 Acura TL. I have a subwoofer and amp that I would like to install and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how to remove the dash board panels to access the stereo head unit. When I bought the car it had an after-market head unit with a subwoofer output, which will make things a little easier, but I don't know how to get to the back of the stereo to attach the wires for the subwoofer amplifier. Also, does anyone have any suggestions for how or where to run the speaker cables from the stereo head unit to the trunk where the amp and subwoofer will be?

Thanks,
Will

Welcome to the forums. Getting to the headunit is a bit tedious but not difficult. You have to disassemble the center console to get to it. I have the PDF with the instructions on how to do it. Let me know your email address if you want them.

Here is the PDF to get to the headunit

Props to skyeflye who originally posted it.

As for running wires. just run them from the headunit down under the carpet, then run them along the passenger or driver side of the car under the panels into the trunk.

Any other audio questions you may want to take a look here, has a boat load of info.

If you want, I can lift my rear seats and show you how i ran my cables. Theres two choices. you can either run them through the sides or run them straight from the middle and through the center console.

the person who owned the car before be had subwoofers in the trunk, and there are already wires for the amp underneath the passenger seat. would it be a good idea to leave the amp under the seat and then run the subwoofer cables from the amp to the trunk?

heyitsvu, that would be great if you could send pics of how you ran your speaker cables. also, how do you lift the rear seats?

quinto1025, thanks for the pdf

Will,
Before you start tearing things apart, please do a search on sub installations for this car. You can very easily tap into the line signal for the stock subwoofer amp which is located behind the back seat.

DO NOT mount the amp under the seat. They probably left the wires under the seat to hide them.

Mount the amp in the trunk.
