Stupid TL Tricks

Just wanted to see who can top my best bonehead move involving a TL...

It is late 2001 and I am in Oregon and I needed to drop off my Prelude for service, so I let my wife drive my brand new ABP TL-S with 6k on the clock to pick me up (strike 1). It is her first time driving it alone (strike 2).

So, I'm driving down I-5 in the 'lude on a 10 mile trip and I notice that the ol'lady & TL are waaayyy behind me on the highway. I say to myself, "Damn, that's one cool lady for taking care of my car like that."

I get to Springfield and I'm turning the 'lude in for service when the TL finally pulls up. I walk up and ask what took so long and she replies that she couldn't go any faster than she was. She then asked me why the '2' was showing up in the little window. Well, I got this queasy feeling, looked at the shifter, and saw that she was in SS... Stee-rike Threeeee!

Ten highway miles in second gear....

Took the car straight to Acura to have them check for thrown codes and there were none. Nothing wrong with the car at all. I was soooo freakin' scared...

She had to have been at 6 grand in VTEC the whole way.... My bad completely, of course...improper training

Toppers?

My brother in law borrowed my car once and called me fifteen minutes later to report, "its really bogging! Does it always bog when you let off the gas...?" and then my wife, overhearing the phone conversation and realizing I had no idea what was hapening, said, "its the manual shift setting. That got me the first time I drove it. I drove all the way to work in first gear"

Wow.

This is why the SS is the very first thing I showed my fiance when I got my car.

I wonder what kind of gas mileage she was getting...?

I had just replaced foglight bulbs and my brother had to go to CostCo to pick up a few things. He asked me if he could take my car, and I figured why the hell not.

Half an hour later, he came back, and I was on his computer (actually browsing through A-TL and A-CL) and he goes, "Hey, Rob... umm, sorry, but I kind of drove your car with the parking brake on."

My heart stopped; I didn't know what to say. I ran out the door, and when I got about 30 feet away from the car, I could smell the burnt parking brake. And the wheel was extremely hot to the touch.

Well, I had jacked up the car and applied the parking brake to replace the bulbs, and my brother didn't know. I had, at the time, a dead O2 sensor, so VSA and CEL lights were on. Obviously he overlooked the BRAKE light.

Nice Stories fellas Well I got one but It happened on my Acura Legend. My cousin came to visit me from SoCal for a few days once. Anyway , one of the days i was working she needed to borrow my car to go see some of her old friends. The weather that morning was great but later turned out to be a really rainy day. Anyhoo, after i dropped myself off at work she got into the drivers seat and took off. I had the sunroof open and didnt think anything of it since it was sunny that morning. Later on that day my buddy from work drops me off at my house and i see my car in the garage and the interior almost flooded. I rushed to ask what happened and she told me that when it started to rain she couldnt find the button to close the sunroof It all dried up well but I was crackin up about it for the next 2 weeks.

Seems like the moral of the stories: Don't let ANYONE drive your car.

My parents drove with a flat all week, and they didn't know until I came home from college and found the tire flat.

Yep, my ignorant mother did the exact same thing. she stated to me after driving the TL that it found "sluggish, but also felt like it was constantly gripping the road" No duh!!! She was driving the entire day in Second Gear. For some reason, everytime she shifted the car to D5, she would pull the shifter left as well, which puts her in SS mode, and then would leave it. Didn't know that the "Orange 2" meant she was in second gear.

Oh well, no driving for her again!!!

you have the nerve to call your mother ignorant? firstly thats rude. secondly thats the incorrect word for this situation. i would suggest you replace ignorant with idiotic, that would make grammatical sense. thirdly the Orange 2, is actually a RED 2, but youre right about the second gear thing.

yea that is rude for you to call your mom ignorant. its a mistake that alot of people have made. just let her know next time not to put it in SS. When I first bought my car she would always drive it and every time she gets in the car im there to tell her not to put it in SS mode.

My dad did that to my car when I first go it. I was going into NY and didn't want to take my car so I took his. Then he called me up and was like, your cars is bad, it doesn't shift past 3rd gear. but he then told me he drove real slow because of that.

Not a problem. All SL65s are slushboxes, and even in manual mode, the SL65 will upshift when you reach redline (5800 RPM).

How, pray tell, did she manage to get the car into '1' in the first place?

Ditto.

I let a friend borrow the car and she had it in 1st Gear the whole week. Never hurt anything, but she did ask why it made such a loud noise.

Needless to say, I drive from now on.

Yay Sport Shift.
Boo Non-Acura drivers.
