Stop me before I buy again!

Just put a deposit down on a 2003 Cobra coupe. Talk me out of it! I would give the TLS to my wife.

Just to stay on-topic:

"Do you think a TL-S with CAI could beat the Cobra?"

LOL! I loved that sarcastic question.

I'm not going to stop anybody from switching over from a (really nice) front wheel drive sedan to a supercharged RWD V-8 6spd. Uh uh, nope. That new Cobra should be a real trip. 3:55 rears stock too with 390HP AND 390lbs. of torque!!. Your tire replacement bills are definitely going to go up

When are they expecting to start delivering them?

Wow, I've haven't been reading my Mustang magazines since I bought the TL-S.....I had no idea Ford got serious and finally placed a supercharger in the Cobra. Nice

Well if you like poor build quality, a crappy paint job, incompetent service advisors, and piss poor customer service I say go for it. I have a 2001 Cobra with 5k miles and if I were to do it all over again (which I won't) I would wait a while and see what types of problems pop up. Ford has enough trouble getting 320 HP out of that motor and now they want to supercharge it to 390, HA.

My car has been to two dealers a total of five times for the same two problems and they have not fixed anything.

Check here to read about some of the upset 2001 Cobra Owners.

'Course I was kidding...but I did put the deposit down.

Kramer:
1) The 2001 HP issue is old news...can you give a bit of detail on your situation?
2) There certainly will be no squawking about power with the blower...rumor is the engine will produce in excess of 390
3) Paint - not a big deal to me. I do nearly all my own maintenance so cust. service is an issue, but only during warranty work.
4) Did you take advantage of some of the SVT services? There is a tolol-free SVT number - I have heard some chat rooms 'Stangophiles indicate they get pretty good answers.

Basically, I like muscle cars, and am willing to trade EurAsian refinement for ballstothewall power. The TL-S would still be int he stable, as I mentioned.

Actually the HP issue is old news, it was with th 99's. The 2001 problems are as follows, spark detonation (or pinging) under a load, kocking (like there is no oil in the motor) when starting the car after sitting for a few hours or so, piston slap or knocking at about 2800 rpm for the first 3-4 miles when cold, transmission clunks when engaging 1st gear at a light, transmission grinds 2nd and 3rd gears when cold.

All of these problems have been diagnosed as either normal or unable to duplicate by the dealer which is a joke, I can make them all happen at will.

Don't get me wrong the car is fun as hell but I seriously question its longevity. Also, I do not abuse it or take it to the track, I drive it two weeks a month to work and back 52 miles round trip. If you check some of the message boards on the Cobra there are a lot of guys who don't have these problems, on the other hand there are many who do and are fed up with Ford doing nothing about it.

As for the SVT hotline, I've called them many times and they are OK but they are simply marketing and PR guys. They did tell me they knew there was a problem with the 01's pinging but did not have a fix for it.

Unfortunatley this is my fourth and final mustang.

I guess it is hit or miss - same is true for a lot of makes. Two guys here at work have SVT 'Bras, and both have been bulletproof. One had the ticking sound, called the SVTOA, and talked to one of the engine builders. He told him what to look for, and SVT called the dealer and it was corrected. Apparently there is some adjustability on the lash on the hydraulic lifters - I recall having to pre-tension my Chevy small-block as well, so the valves were not too tight, not too loose. Has yours been doing this all along, or did it just start? After 30k miles or so, this could be an adjustment needed.

I expect the car to arrive in May - cost about $35.5k - we do not know for sure, but my contract says no money above MSRP.

BTW, the new block is cast-iron. And the inside scoop on BONews is that 390 is minimum - Ford is determined not to get in trouble as they did in 1999, as you rightly corrected me.

Bwahahahahaha!
Maybe true if the Snake launches in 4th.
The MM would have to be a McLaren engine.
But if I grant you your claim, I still will have the TL-S to fall back on. Does crying void the warranty?

Volkracing: I put down $500. Silver paint. Production numbers are unknown. There are supposedly two production runs: one in the Spring, one late in 2003 model year. That would suggest only a few thousand units. Rumors of $5k dealer sticker enhancements in California have been reported. I will get mine at MSRP or less per my sales contract.

See, that's one reason why I wasn't going to wait for a Type-S when I bought my 2002. And if I had waited it was for the VSA not the HP/torque. If I want the muscle car feel I just go take out the Mustang..... About 5 years ago my dad and I begun the project of restoring a mustang (and modding while we went). We totally tore it down, all the way to the unibody, then totally rebuilt it, making all the performance mods along the way. It's so hard not to take out for a spin every time we warm it up, that thing sounds like a big block once it gets all warmed up. So I totally see where Road Rage is coming from. He'll have the best of both worlds.... I say go for it. The new Cobra is going to be a real kick in the pants.

Never owned a Stang but always amazed how fooken fast those things are. My bro had a 97 when they first came out...he was the $hit in H.S. He never bought another Mustang after that...went Japanese from there on. Wait he bought that stupid Expedition that he can't get rid of if his life depended on it.

My guess would be around $40K+, and I believe they will get every penny of it and sell a ton. Look at the Z06, they're going fo rmid 50's.

I'd wiat for the 2nd production run so they can work out some flaws (they wont work them all out)

390HP -- ya thats what they claim :p

and the new max was to have 255 hehehe

and the old cobra 320 somethin heheeh

my dad works for Ford, but after owning a few, after my mom owning a few, dad owning tons, and then knowing people that have owend foreign, I will NEVER buy a ford again unless its disposable (i.e. new and i'll dump it after 2 years or 40k)
