Talking Start Saving !!!!!!. . .

Just got this update from Comptech

..::Supercharger::..
Application:
Accord V6 98-02, CL 01-02, TL 99-02 (including Type-S Model)
Currently Under Development
- Due ~Feb-March 2002
Horsepower gains on 3.0L Accord 60-70 Wheel Horsepower.
Will include:
Supercharger unit, icebox, fuel system upgrades (FPR & in- tank fuel
pump), as well as all required hardware & brackets.
-Will require purchasing a new, smaller battery.
-Recommend upgrading transmission fluids to Redline Fluid.

High price but I think its worth it. It has big gains and looks incredible!

I thought I heard someone say Redline themselves said ONLY use Honda ATF.

Everyone is very specific on using only Honda ATF when it comes to our trannys. So what gives with the Redline ATF fluid recommendation?

I would buy it under 3 conditions.

1. the HP gain is throughout the powerband and not just at it's peak.
2. Comptech is sure that our trannies will hold up with a simple tranny fluid change.
3. it has a carb number.

There will be a carb number.
You may need a new tranny without it so why not have it.
They designed it to have low end torque without sacrificing too much of the top end gains, I think it is just what we need.

I am going to get it and if the tranny goes then it goes So far I haven't had problems and I always use the parking brake and then shift into park just to feel safer lol.

No thanks! My wife is getting my TL afterwards and I really don't think she needs a SC.

$4500 can go a long way as a down payment for my next car (GS430/540).:p

0-60 is always gonna be slow... cuz being FWD, Automatic.

1/4 is gonna change a lot thought... I think at least... Based on some formular. here are the number that I have come up with.

HP with SC at the fly wheel should be around

225hp + 70hp@wheel = 225+ 90 = 315 at the crank. Our tranny lose about 20% of the power...

Weight = 3490+driver 150+SC kt 60 = 3700 lb.

Then based on the formular

HP=weight/(ET/5.825)**3

The 1/4 ET should be somewhere around 13.24.

Seems a bit too high to me still... But to get you in the 13s is possible, provided that you have some decent traction...

My sentiments exactly. An SC may be the straw that breaks the camel's back... our origami-like transmission doesn't seem to be built for the punishment.

I mean, 20HP gain from header/intake is one thing... but a 70HP gain? That's 27% more torque than nominal. Comptech's SC had better come with a tranny warranty!

I'll pass.

Let see what i can do if i don't get this supercharger

$4500 + Tranny Upgrade = new Lexus SC430 down payment.

$4500 + Tranny Upgrade = $$$$($) for house down payment.

$4500 + Tranny Upgrade = i can lend to Binh @ 6% interest since he dead broke j/k

Because if you get it, you will likely need a new transmission, and there's no way in hell Acura would replace it on warranty. Does anyone know the price of an off-warranty transmission swap? Plus, even if you do replace your transmission, what are you replacing it with? Another TL transmission that eventually will crap out on you again!

kind of steep.

consider i can get 120HP and 136 lb gain on my 530i for only $6K. And no need of a new tranny.

Acura really crapped on TL owner by not using a better tranny.

Wellll.... that tranny works just dandy with the engine it came with! I guess Acura never intended the TL to be the "modder's car" that it's become.

I would think the majority of TL owner who mod their cars are right here on this forum and not the actual majority of overall TL owners.

I feel this way basically because 95% of TL's I see on the road are bone stock driven by house wives.

Thats true but they are the first owners. When this car hits the used market, I'm sure most will be men and modders at that.
