SRS light came on during acceleration
SRS light came on during acceleration
well, i was on cruise control @65mph tongiht for a good half hour, my exit was coming up and there was a guy to my right so i needed to pass him to take my exit about 1.5 miles ahead. so i accelerated to around 75mph w/ cruise control still on - as i got into the lane i lifted my foot of the gas pedal to let it go back down to 65 for cruise control to take over. just as i lifted my foot off, the SRS light came on. got home and turned the car off and on to see if it would go away. didn't.
i've searched around the forum to see if anybody had any similar story like mine, none. but i've found out how to reset it. but i'm wondering if the lights comes on like the maint. light where you know you can reset it b/c it's just a reminder. is the SRS light a reminder of something.. cause if something caused it to light, i just dont want to reset it w/o fixing it. any help guys? i'm trying to avoid the dealer as much as possible.. cause they charge for everything.. so hopefully this is something simple..

I think SRS lights has nothing to do with acceleration. Mine came on because I was low on battery. Have you ever replace the battery? Do you have any sign of low battery, like hard to start?
Or it might be bad airbags, sensor, or even seat belt.

so if i bring it to the dealer, most likely they will charge me just to find out? if they use their computer or whatever to find out, what comes up, how does that thing work?
just wondering, will it tell the date and time of the srs lighting up?...

the diagnostic test will just bring up the problems of the car.. it shouldnt cost any more than 10 dollars.. but if you bring it to a local mechanics shop, they usually dont charge you. all of the ones i went to didnt charge me. so before i go to the dealer i always go get my diagnostics done there, and see if its fixable on my own, if not just at the mechanic. and if i have warranty or recall on it, then the dealer.
oh, local mechanics can do this too?? so it must be like a universal computer they are using right? i just thought that every car brand has its own system..so only dealers would have it..
no man... we have a diagnostic port right behind underneath the coin holder/battery charger outlet.. that port works with any diagnostic computer and yes, the computers used at dealers are, not same, but its the same concept. it gets the job done and sometimes its quicker. and free of charge!

well guys, i went to my autozone shop today and told them about the SRS light, well, he said the computer will not pull the codes for SRS anyways, only Check engine light, but did it anyways to be sure, and sure enough he was right, nothing coming up. so.. can this be nohting? just reset it myself? i told my dealer and they said if it's nothing it should go away after a number of times of driving (the car turning off and on, off and on, etc..) but if it doesn't something could be wrong. so i'm still debating this cause 90$ just for the diagnostic is kinda steep..
btw, does anyone know if a dealer nearby will charge me for less...?

nah not yet. it's still on, but i'm going to the dealer for a vibration (think it's my tranny going..) i stated in another thread, so maybe they'll check it out then... so waiting for my app. on the 6th of Jan.
could be something as simple as a fuse, just have them check it out when you bring the car in next week, do you wear your seatbelt when you drive? One of the service bulletens is for the driver side SRS sensor to burn out, its in your seatbelt latch and if strains the sensor if you dont wear your seatbelt, thats what the dealer had told me, I had my SRS light on when i test drove my TL, they replaced the sensor and said it was probally due to the previous owner not wearing their seatbelt. The service bulletin # for is is 02-015, the one for the passenger side is 02-020
i wear my seat belt a lot, so maybe it can't be that reason, but doesn't hurt to check.but maybe it could be my seat belt, it doesn't retract by itself, you have to shove most of it in then it starts to retract... could this be a cause?? it happens to both driver and passenger side.
if the srs light is on there is more than likely something wrong. bring it in to have it checked out. when the light is on NONE of your airbags work. mine cme on and it was a sensor. unless it was something you did to cause it( like unplugging a harness with the car on that had a srs sensor or the one for the seat) there is probably something wrong
Acceleration had nothing to do with it, in my opinion.
Like everybody else said, go have it checked out. It's most likely a sensor problem. It's known to happen.
I unplugged the SRS harnesses to remove my front seats a while back, and the SRS light came on afterwards. I drove like that for like a month (stupid, I know, but it's an hour and half to the dealership), then I hit a raccoon and it's been in the shop since. I'm going to take it into the dealership for the SRS light, and the loose vent cover as soon as I get the car back.
Good luck.
