SRS light AGAIN!!!! 5th time!!!

i went downstairs a lil while ago to pull my car into my driveway and noticed my f#cking SRS light is on!!! this is the 5th time it came on since i had the car wich is about a lil over 3 years. all the previous time it came on i was still under waranty and the dealer CLAIMED they fixed it. well now that im out of waranty i dont know what to do.

im starting to think the dealer was just resetting it instead of accually fixing it. when i got my first tranny replaced last month they told my they they changed my motor/tranny mount and charged me for the part, but everytime i start the car i feel/hear the motor rumble and after that it vibrates very noticable. and sometimes when i hit the gas while rolling or moving at a low speed it takes a second and then after i hear a thump the engine kicks in. its like as if they losened my whole front end.

Well if you took it to the dealer then they should have a record of them trying to fix it. Take it back to them and tell them the work they did wasn't sufficient. Tell them to get it right this time and im sure you wouldn't have to pay.Did you get the extended warranty on the SRS system? I got mine. My light came on about 96 thou miles and they fixed for free and gave me a rental for the day.

OPDS sensor. They extended the warrany on this sensor for 10 years or 150,000(of course which ever comes first). Some of you may already know that this sensor if faulty may cause the SRS light to come on.

If you've had bad luck at the dealer you go to, or simply don't trust them maybe you should go to a different one. I go forty minutes out of my way just to avoid my local dealer.

A week after we bought our 02 used the SRS light came on. I didn't buy an extended warranty but the dealer tested and reset the light for free. Said if it came on again the sensor needed to be replaced. It did about a month later. That was a year ago. Haven't taken it in as when i drive the car the steering wheel blocks my seeing the light. They said the sensor was working just throwing code. Eventually my wife will complain about seeing the light and we will have it fixed.

First, call Acura customer care and give them your VIN number, they can verify if you are covered by the 10/150 on the srs sensor, then

Take your car IMMEDIATLY to an ACURA Dealer!!!

With this sensor non-op, the side airbags will not activate! Thats why the extended-no charge-warranty for this part, MAJOR safety issue.

How happy will your wife be when you get Tboned on her side and the side curtain does not activate?
This is a system that knows where each occupant is actually sitting and will delay the curtain inflation until safe- so as not to crush your head.

Still think its ok to ignore the light?

01tl4tl...when i had the sensor reset and they checked it I specifically asked if there was a problem if the light came on. Tech said no, it tested fine. Didn't realize that Acura had extended the warranty. Just got off the phone with customer care and will be calling my dealership shortly to get it in. Thanks for the headsup on the 10/150K deal.

I've had my srs light go up. I took it to a mechanic and he fixed it pretty quick. He said that if you put electronics or something small on the seat, it will go off. The small thing was probably my backpack or laptop case... cuz it wasn't big enough to be sensed as a person. But yeah... also my side went off too, which may have been caused by leaning on the chair too much? Or so he said.

Have your registration or copy of VIN number ready when you call

Call Acura customer care at 1 800 382-2238 x5 between 6am and 5pm Pacific Time
and ask if you are covered by the extended srs warrenty of 10 years/ 150 thousand miles, see the postings above for sucessful repairs under this warranty

Tell them you are not happy with the local dealer and to locate another one for you.
When you put in a bad word, there is email sent to several levels of managers and the service manager at the specific dealer about your complaint.

I answered a cutomer phone survey at 730pm once and gave negative feedback on the dealer, at 9pm I got a call from the service manager to see what was wrong.
He said Acura emails him on his phone with problems!

The SRS is very important- I do not care what some tech said to blow off a customer.

Also, by law, the dealer must give an estimate price on a work order or they cannot work on the car. As soon as it is discovered to be a warranty prob, a warranty repair order is made and work proceeds at no charge to you.

Best luck and let us know what happens

Might want to actually get it checked out. From what I understand, if the SRS indicator is on, the airbags won't deploy during an accident.

Make an appointment for service at the dealer. Do not go in on Monday and think they will jump right on it. Its Monday, and they have a morning mechanics meeting and......

Try a Tues or Wed if possible and drop it off at 730 am or whatever the first available time is. They actually try to schedule customers at intervals coming in- so the service writer can take care of you one at a time. Does that ever actually work no

Its not about how long does it take to do the repair- the car has to enter the stream of cars going in and have the right mechanic work on it.
Then its do they have the part or not, something you can ask the parts manager when you call.
Next is fixing the car and returning it to you. Should be back same day if part in stock.

If 1 night scares you, just take a look at the transmission replacement threads!!!

As stated before they say the charge will be waived if it is the OPDS sendor unit. The tech said there could be three things causing the SRS light to come on and two of them are covered. I scheduled mine to be dropped off on a wednesday and didn't get it back until thursday night as they had to have the sensor overnighted after diagnosing the problem.

I think autozone has the code readers where they will do it for you.

Thanks a ton for your posts...My SRS light came on didn't think much of it until reading this thread...
I called acrua I have two warranties on my car still:
I have a warranty for transmission for the next bit...7 years or 109 K miles (I'm at 85K)
I also have a warranty on my OPDS Oxygen something Detection System (or something) Which is actually inside the SRS system, but not the entire SRS system...They told me I could take the car in and get it inspected for free...

Well took the car in to get the SRS light looked at and it was the right front passenger seat belt buckle sensor the was not working. It's under warranty, glad that was solved. Thanks for all your help.

Do a search on srs reset. it will tell you how to reset it. If you disconnected the seat with the battery still connected thats why. You can reset the light yourself easy.

thats Occupant Position Detection System srs mean supplemental restraining system- seatbelts being the primary airbags secondary
The OPDS sensor is the one that knows when your passenger leans forward or sideways and the weight is not correct in the seat- when srs light is on- airbag is off
