Question Springs?

I was wondering if the 2002-2003 factory springs fit a 1999 TL...I'm looking for the best ride quality....Is there another brand thats better? Does someone out there have the factory springs they are willing to sell?

Later...P

The springs for the newer models should fit in your 99' TL. How much are you willing to pay for the springs. I still have my factory springs sitting in my garage.

Becareful!!!

What ever you do, don't get Type-S springs, they are stiff as all hell, if you go with the H&R OE Springs, you will get a pretty comfy ride, while improving the handling of your TL, they however, lower your car about 1".

if your ride quality is getting worse, maybe you should check on your shocks

The springs should last the lifetime of the car. If your ride quality is worsening, you should buy new shocks first. If you are happy with the ride you had before the shocks wore out, you should just buy OEM shocks for your 99 TL.

OTOH, If you want a slightly firmer ride, you could go with any of several combinations of aftermarket springs/shocks, which I'm sure others will now comment on.

Whatty What!

P,

Why do you want new springs? If you have a 99 TL with stock springs and shocks, thats as smooth of a ride as you will most likely get.

If you want to lower your car, get the H&R OE Springs, that will lower your car just over 1 inch, and your ride quality should remain about the same.

As far as shocks, when you switch to performance shocks, you will give up some smoothness for handling. What ever you do, you will most likely give up something to get something else, i.e. if it handles better, it will ride harsher and if it's lower, it will ride harsher also, but handle better. The word of the day is "Compromise"

You Can Take this to the Bank

P,

What you should do is check the tire are pressure first, make sure there is not too much air in the tires, that alone can give you a harsh ride. Also, check the condition of your tires, if the tread is all used up or highly worn, that will also give you a harsh ride quality.

If all those fail, buy new shocks, OEM will give you the softest ride quality.

Bad springs cause the car to be "floaty" over bumps. Bad shocks or struts cause the ride to be sloppy or rough. Has anyone ever driven next to a old car with bad shocks and can see the wheel bouncing up and down for like 5 min after they hit a bump....that is very scary stuff.
