Speakers

What are the actual sizes of our speakers. I want to replace them but someone at work told me that on my TL the speakers are hard to mount or something like that. does anyone know what hes talking about?

The Bose speakers are mounted inside white plastic adapters. The point of this, I dunno.

you can take out those white plastic adapters and install new speakers, but the cutout has a very shallow mounting depth so speakers with a neodymium magnet are ideal. I recommend kenwood excelon speakers. I love those speakers.

you can put in 5.25 inch speakers with no cutting, but to fit in 6.5 inch speakers, you will have to cut the stock hole out slightly - not a big deal. The stock size is about 6 inches BTW and they are a 4 ohm speaker.

Whatever speaker you use you want to have matting spacers made for them so that they are flush with your door panels. Do a search under the audio&video section for "matting spacers" and you will see them. You can have them made at tweeter for around 20-25 dollars.

I had the spacers made at .75 deep for a speaker that was 2.6 deep and they cleared the window.

I have 6.5" components up front. What I did to install them is cut the hole in the door larger and for the spacer, I just used the white basket the bose speakers are in. Just cut the basket portion and use the ring.

Thats a really good idea, how do the door panels fit with the speakers spaced out like that? Any issues with the windows hitting the speakers either?

I just got some Focal Utopia 6.5"s for the front, I hope I can make them fit w/o too much issue.

Even though this thread is months old now, the Bose speakers are 16cm (6.3")
