Spark PLug Install Question
Spark PLug Install Question
Well I did it. Had some money to burn, read all the posts about people who ohhhhh'd and ahhhhh'd over the Denso's so I decided to try em out. I got a great price through a group buy by someone I know, so why not?? Lemme see for myself.
Im primarily looking for a slight bump in MPG, so I just dropped in the Comptech filter, I have the headers, and now Im goin with the plugs.
My question is this, from people here who have done the install themselves, what was involved in accessing and removing/replacing the plugs in the rear bank??? I have a Neuspeed Strut bar in addition to the Factory bar, do they both have to come out?? I know I'll find out when I'm actually doing it, but just wanted feedback from someone who has done it already. Thanx guys.

Mr Hyde:
I'd be interested to know this as well...I have the same setup...and the spark plugs sitting on my desk. I know I need a torque wrench...but how much torque should it have? And how do I access everything? By the way...these are pre gapped right? So you just screw them in with the proper torque and you're done right?

The gap should be fine for you guys. I'd recommend not messing with the gap, mainly because the electrode is waaay to fragile. It is commonly know that if u use a conventional gap tool, you will snap the electrode. BTW i believe the gap size is .044
as far as torque goes, im not too sure, i'd read your manual. My accord manual tells me exactly how much torque to use.
BTW, im not sure about how the spark plugs are exactly laid out in your engine bay, but if its anything like my J30A, i'd recommend having a 6" extension bar, two spark plug sockets(one with rubber in it, one without), and a torque wrench.
Oh yeah btw, Mr Hyde, you should have your spark plugs by friday.

As I recall, our plugs are crush washered - I recall 7-12 lbs/ft but I need to look in the Helm's.
Some other tips:
1) Use a small length of 3/8" hose as a starter wrench
2) Apply a small amount of anti-seize to the threads. Although the N-D have an a-s compound already, with these long-life plugs it does not hurt to be safe, esp. with aluminum heads
3) Do not use too much anti-seize. I have seen instances where people shorted out their plugs anode to cathode by using the a-s too much, and it is conductive.
