To Spare or not to Spare
Thinking about taking the spare tire out of the trunk to maximize my gas mileage. Right now I get 360 on a tank. But they way gas prices are...i would like to max the mpg. But here's the dilemma... they thought of not having that spare kinda irks me.....if i ever become stranded. Any thoughts?
I wouldn't either...
It's a fact of life that you'll get a flat tire just after you take it out.
In fact, this reminds me that I have to check the tire pressure on mine.

The small amount of weight you save from it wouldnt amount to squat in mileage and to me woudlnt be worth the risk. Inflating your tires and keeping them properly inflated would yield better results
if you are driving around within a certain radius of your city or people you know, i think you can afford to remove it.
I have enough people that if anything were to happen around here, i can call them up easily to come help me out.

I get a very consistent 25mpg, which translates to nearly 400 miles per tank. I try to avoid jackrabbit starts, accelerate slowly, but I do normally drive at 80mph on the freeway. Premium gas is $3.95/gallon by my house.

What about those of us on larger rims than stock- and directional tires that can only be run on 1 side of the car?
Should we carry 2 new rims and tires ready to go?
On a trip, a flat would be a stopper until repaired or replaced. At least I got fairly available tires!!
Fix a flat and compressor- your tire guy will love you~

LMAO
The weight you save from that will not cause any noticeable difference in performance OR mileage. The only weight reduction you will get is however much weight you lose after walking b/c of a flat tire.
