Something is wrong with my tachometer

My tachometer is not giving accurate readings. It will stay at a certain amount of rpms and then when i give it gas it will stay for a second then jump up to the new reading, its very jiterry, but the car is having no problems driving, and everything else seems to work just fine.

What could this be? and has this happened to anyone else?

do you have gauges install on it? If you do that is most likely the problem

Sounds to me like something is loose. maybe a cable, or the needle?

maybe it's just v-tec kickin in cause it jumps real fast when you engage v-tec. I have a 99 and when I hit v-tec it goes from 3800 to 5000 very quickly, but I have headers and K&n filter so that might help it get up there quicker, but still. Does it just stick at like 3000 and then shoot up to 5500+? More detail would help.

the tachometer is just very jitery and jumps from lets say 1000 to 2000, then 3000 to 4000, and same way back down

It's most likely just a gauge problem. Worst case scenario, your crankshaft position sensor is going bye-bye.

Does anyone know where to get a digital tach/odo reader that you can just tap into the speed sensor wire?

The closest thing I can think of is the Apex'i RSM, but as far as I know, it is not compatible with UA4/UA5.

Could be a sensor going out as well. Go to Auto Zone and get a free scan. Some codes don't light up the check engine light.
