So Frustrated!!!!

ARGH!!! OK, I've had just about all I can stand with my TL. I love the car...but there's some things about it that drive me nuts. The transmission IS going bad, according to the dealer, but they can't replace it yet because it hasn't FAILED, even though they KNOW it's going bad. Acura won't let them replace it. So I'm stuck with those odd shifts and that slipping feeling (it's slowly happening more and more).

This is, of course, not to mention the problems inside the car. As soon as I fix one squeak, another appears. Fix one rattle, there's 4 more to take it's place. And the center console will open randomly if it's hot outside over every bump. I've had that "fixed" twice, but it's still a problem.

There's other little insundry things...but the point is, I'm becoming more and more convinced that, although the basic car is pretty solid (minus the tranny, of course), the rest of the car is slowly falling apart. I EXPECT and DEMAND more from a car this expensive, and from Honda of all manufacturers. That said, I don't know...I'm trying hard not to think that I regret not buying that 330 Ci I had my eye on...but what can I say? The dealer has been great and they've really tried to help me out. And it's nice to have a warranty, but I don't want to use it EVERY WEEK. The dealer's become a second home. Is ANYONE else this frustrated!?!?!

I too was as frustrated as you...thenI got into an accident. Squeaks and rattles are NOTHING compaired to what you will go through if you require a bodyshop have to fix anything. I drove an American car for 3 months untill I got my baby back. To me...it looks like you need to seperate from your car a bit for you to appreciate what you really have.

If you suspect to have a bad tranny and are waiting to get it fixed...then by all means why dont you help it out and start drag racing? Power brake that sucker at 3500.

With all these talks of failing trannies, I went ahead and talked to my service maneger about it. He assured me that when it comes to the internet...all it takes is a few people to set off a "bad tranny" fire before it spreads to the masses like an inferno. So far (Oakland,CA) replaces TL trannies in every 1-2 month period.

Well, just because they can't replace it because it ain't broke yet don't mean that they don't have to do anything to alleviate the tranny problems you're currently experiencing. If your tranny ain't shifting right, then tell Acura to make it shift right.

Doesn't matter if the tranny is failing or not, if you car isn't operating right, they have to fix it. I suggest you go to another dealer if they current one won't do anything for you.

My Tranny was slipping between 2 and 3rd gear and that's all my dealer needed to know to have the whole thing replaced. Your service dept sux.

Also, my center console has never opened by itself and I live in the So Cal Desert with my car parked outside sometimes. It gets to about 115 in summer out here. I wonder if there WAS an issue with the console and there's new parts to fix it?

I hear you loud and clear!!! Some of these guys remember my posts about how annoyed I am at my car. There are so many things wrong with it and its at a point where its annoying but not replaceable. As for the rattles, I turn my music up so I do not hear them. However, when I have the radio off, I feel like getting a metal bat and beating the sh1t out of my car. I just got my car back from the dealer. They replaced my Idle control valve or something like that because when my car started while the engine was still warm, the RPM's would drop below 300 RPM's and shake until you gave it a little gas or turned the steering wheel. Guess what? I thought it was finaly fixed but its not. It just doesn't do it as much anymore.

I hear you loud and clear. I sometimes regret buying this car. I mean, dont get me wrong. It was what I thought the greatest car I have ever been in. HOwever, as it gets older, It really gets old!!! Not like many other Honda products where as they get older, they are just breaking in.

Calmed a bit...

Thanks guys. After I wrote that, I calmed down a bit. I'm going back to the dealer on Monday to straighten everything out... Hopefully everything will be resolved this time.

Oh, and BTW, the Lemon Laws in California are a pain in the ass...and if Acura refuses to do the work...then that doesn't fall under the Lemon Law...it would be breach of contract (the warranty).

i totally understand where your coming from. i stated earlier that the parts manager wasn't going to order me another tranny until it dies. Luckily my friend(acura mechanic) checked the car out again and noticed it diminishing, so he ordered a new one and my car was fixed the next day. My suggestion is, beat the hell out of it. But as for the lemon law, I was under the impression it can only be called that, if it happens 3times. I've mentioned it before, the tranny problem is b/c acura decided to put a cheaper part in the transmission causing all these problems(trust me it's the truth, but they have a fix for it). Now its bitting them in the ass, they're doing 2-3 trannys a month, and its not only 02', but also the 00'-01's as well. Hopefully after all this, I'll be happy w/ my TL.

*by the way, your car is going down, mine started mild by shifting slowly, but w/in 3days, I couldn't even reverse..talk about rude awakening..hope this helped..

The lemon laws in CA can't be that bad. My friend just got Ford to pay her cash for an Explorer that she bought after taking it in for the same problem a number of times. Turns out she got more than the purchase price and is used the money to buy an A4

I concur. Can't really miss something until it's gone.

Something else that really pissed me off...

Apparently, when I took the car in to have it fixed last time (the time where they had the right problem and for some reason replaced the wrong part...), someone used a screwdriver to get the cupholder doors out. They obviously did it by twisting the screwdriver, so it tore up my center console. It's no TOO visible, but that is such shoddy workmanship. Makes me wanna scream.
