Unhappy Too low for 4-wheel alignment?

It's been about two weeks since I had my H&R Sport Springs installed so I booked an appointment at my local Acura dealership to get a 4-wheel alignment (as instructed by the folks on this forum!).

Anyway, I also had my 15K service done at the same time ($160 bucks, thank you). When it came time to pick up my car the service writer tells me that they couldn't do the alignment because my car was too low! WTF? Anyone else have this problem? I have the body kit and the sport springs... too low? Said something about the kit blocking their sensors, or something like that. Said they have problems doing alignments on NSX's, too.

I do have a Plan-B though... I'll just have the shop that installed my springs do the alignment. They wanted to do it the same day... but I told them I'd probably come back in two weeks.

Is anyone else running into this problem?

V.

I actually ran into a problem where I went to Merchant's to get my alignment done and he said they didn't have the specs for my car. I was like WTF?! I took it to an Acura dealer and they did it with no problems. I have the H&R sports also, but no body kit.

I have the Eiback Pro-kit springs which has about the same drop on the rear as the H R's. Went to a Big O tire store and they didn't have the specs either. Check another place that didn't use the computer and they said my camber was off by 1.5 degrees do to the drop. They ordered new upper suspension links that are adjustable and it dialed the rears right back to the stock settings. The adjustable links are not cheap ethier( about $360 for the pair).

Is that the same as a camber kit? I was gonna get this soon, since my rear was off by about 1.5 degrees.

A bit off the subject and all but I was wondering how you like u're
H&R Sport Springs... I'm thinking about installing those same springs and I also have a OEM body kit...

any scraping?
rubbing?
ride quality? bouncy?
Does the back look lower than the front b/c the way the wheel well is cut??

As far as your problem goes... I use to have a slammed integra and its a B#!@$ to find someone that will align a lowered car. well it is in my area.. MD/VA/DC

thanks

easy_d23,

You'll find a lot of info if you just type in springs in the search engine. Personally I love the springs. Some people have mentioned bounce problems or complained about how stiff it is. There is definitely a ride penalty. It hits harder on pot holes and you feel every bump. I think the benefits outweigh the negatives. Much better cornering, no nosedive when I hit my brakes hard, and (seems like) better acceleration.
The back looks slightly lower than the front, but it's hardly noticeable. I think it's the closest you can get to an even drop. If I had the money and chance to do it all over again, I'd get the stage 1 OE Sports springs with front and rear comptech sawys. It might be the better way to go for you, since you have a bodykit too (I don't). Oh yeah...it looks teriffic too!

Nah not too low

I just got my service done today and the align my car. I ahve skunk 2 coilovers and its crank all the way to the bottom. I dont think the H&R springs go that low. I however have REALLY bad camber and my tired are balding already with one month length of drop only. I guess they didnt know or dont want to deal with aligning you car today. Its like $70 to align at the dealer that I go tho so maybe some where can do it for like $50.

Ah, see--that's the key...Niello only deals with Comptechs... j/k, I know that it shouldn't matter.

I like my springs. No scraping or rubbing detected. The ride quality is down about 10-15%, I'd guess. No bouncing... unless I smack into a pothole! And there's less wheel gap in the rear than in the front... but it actually made my car look level.

Yeah, I went to Niello... but I don't know what the deal is either. Except, now that you mention it... the other Sacto boys also have Comptech springs on their CLs. Maybe the H&R's are a little lower than C'tech's.

Heh, heh, heh... you crack me up, dude! I'm gonna have to drop by your bro's shop and meet you one of these days! Did you ever get that CompuStar alarm put into your car?

Thanks for the replies, gents!

I had a weird one like this as well...

I took my Saab 9-3 in for an 4-wheel alignment last week after tossing on some Borbet wheels and a set of new Potenzas, and felt a vibration when I got it back. Took it back and they said they'd give it another look.

Got the car back and the vibration was pretty much gone.

I asked the dealer what he did, and he said they took it to the Lexus dealer next door because "Lexus dealers have the newest and most accurate equipment in the area, and we wanted to have a Lexus mechanic doublecheck our work."

Pretty strange admission for a dealer don't you think?

My guess is that if your Acura dealer can't align your car, he must have older equipment.

Not yet...of course, I think CompuStar has come out with a later model than the one that's in your car...
Other than that, I can't say much since my car is practically still bone-stock. As much as I would like to put money into it, gotta save money for home improvements. You should drop by my bro's shop one of these days, if not to meet me but to see his new toy...
