Post Smokin' M3

In Road and Track. Euro test against new 911 and Corvette Z06. The M was just as quick as the Vette, and stopped from 60 in 112 feet! Judged best overall. Did a 13.3 quarter.

BTW, the CLK55 only did 5.5 to 60 - El Sluggo!

Those ZO6 times are off. Most stock are running 12.44 in the 1/4 and 0-60 ranges from 4-4.5 secs.

There was a European mag "Car" which touted the ZO6 above the M3... not that I am biased or anything... but R&T doesnt know what they are talking about... most of these mags are all BMW favored. but to see a european mag take the ZO6 over the M3 was quite impressive.

That sucks! I'm going to wait til mine comes and if I still like it I'll buy it if the body is going to change, I'm picking me up an M5...f*ck that! I ain't paying $74K for 5.5 0-60. I'm still waiting on some things to fall through, if they do, I may pick up an M5 by April. Wish me luck guys!

M3 - sweet performance but 70k for a 3 series? - rediculous
you are better off getting a 996 carerra or an M5

CLK55 - 0-60 5.5? i wouldnt say slow because you have to realize it is an automatic. It's a Mercedes, you buy it for its luxury rather than its performance.

No way in hell u can get an M5 for less than an M3, or even a similar price...the M5's after demand and stuff is selling for more than 80 large.

I wanted the 323 when it was that and they wanted alsmost 40 for it, my friends just bought 330s, one conv, on hard top and both of them were mid 40s, and the M3 is suposed to be 45 but it will definately not get a buyer that pays less than 50 or even 60s. Good luck tryin to get it cheaper.

Oh, the M3's just had that silly little problem of putting piston rods through the engine block at high RPMs--this is one of the main reasons why they have not been released yet even though they were scheduled to be.

If you want the M3 call your local BMW dealer ASAP and get on the waiting list. If you dont mind waiting, the base price on the M3 is around $45,000. Since the car is pretty well loaded to begin with with added options the car should be around $50,000 out the door. Your other option is to pay the crazy premium on the car which is anywhere from $10,000 to $20,000. This is the reason some people are paying in excess of $70,000. The same goes for the M5, market demand on that car is incredible. people are paying $90,000 to $110,000 for a $70,000 car. Kinda rough to get into the "Ultimate Driving Machine".

Try $170K+ for those, unbearable demand for those since they only sent like a "couple" to the states.

Oh, BTW, DC area dealers have like 8 M5's and they are all going for sticker. I guess the demand isn't there anymore.

I asked the dealer when I was going to get mine - they originally said July but now I am not so sure. There has been a problem identified with the engine building, but I do not think it is a design flaw.

The brakes will be awesome. Still, I made a deal for no higher than MSRP, so maybe I will do one of the following

1) Sell my place in line to someone who is hot to trot for a couple of large
2) Buy the thing, and immediately turn it arounf with 20 miles on it for re-sale.

If I keep it, I am going to lease it - I want to drive the living piss out of it, which I do only occasionally when I own a car. Even with thre NSX, I found myself short-shifting to be nice to my baby.

I need a slut car I can abuse, baby, yeahhh!!!!
