Sluggish When A/c Is On
I Notice That Sometimes When I Have The Ac On That My 03 Tls Is Very Very Sluggish, Doesn't Get A Full Kick When I Downshift & Feels Rough When I Accelerate. Anyone Else Have This Problem. It Only Happens Sometimes, Other Times It Runs Smooth As Can Be And You Would Never Think The Ac Is On.

usually when the AC is blowing hard, it definitely takes away from the power of the engine, but it should only be in the beginning when the AC is blowing hard. After the interior is cooled off and air is blowing normally, you should have your power back.

The compressor is probably in it's "on" cycle when it gets sluggish. Since these cars have climate control the A/C cycles on and off after it reches the interior temp set.
On my last car (no climate control) the compressor' clutch would disengage if the gas pedal was to the floor for more than three seconds. By the time that happened it was too late for the car to do what I wanted it to. But it did rob a lot of power from that little four cylinder.

I notice that too...
Also, compared to my old Taurus, this likes to cycle on an off in comparatively short cycles. I am thinking that the AC system in Honda/Acuras are smaller and just dont hold that much freon in comparison. Thus it takes less time for it to cool down and warm up to turn the compressor off and on again.
More noticeably though are naturally aspirated cars are much more sluggish in hot and humid weather - and those are the times we need the AC to work. So its a double whammy for the engine; poor atmospheric conditions not allowing are cars to breathe easier and our need to stay cool when we cant breathe as well.
Our AC's shut off after mashing about 2/3 of the pedal travel.
One thing I hate is the "lurching" you get when the compressor kicks on and off. ARGH!
