bummer!

may i add snow tires are great!

and TCS= traction control. its its to keep the tires from spinning while accelerating. not breaking.

what were the circumstances. Were u taking a turn or coming to a stop. ABS should have taken care of the stopping part. Unless u have VSA, u pretty much on your own in the turns.

Sorry to hear about the wreck, but like others said, TCS isn't going to help you during braking.

You on 3.2TL????? Useless, extra weight

Well, at least the car held up and kept you safe! While we're talking about safet features, keep in mind that our Traction Control System is not all-speed. It only limits wheel spin up to 20mph. If you're going faster than that, it won't work. I think what YOU needed at the time was ABS and it sounds like it wasn't doing enough for ya that day.

Sometimes, no technology can prevent a car from skidding, especially in icy/snowy conditions.

ABS actually INCREASES the braking distance, for the sake of the ability to steer while braking by avoiding brake lock-up.

If I had it my way, I wouldn't have gotten ABS on my car... on any of my cars for that matter. Fuck ABS.

Sorry to hear about the accident. That just sucks. But as long as you're OK...

I will never understand 22 year old who are too overconfident in their driving abilities. ABS is probably the greatest safety feature in cars since seastbelts and save many lives and injuries every year. You cannot stop a car as quickly or
maintain control of your car in bad condtions as ABS will. It may cost you a few feet in perfect conditions; but it will save your butt in the rain or snow in panic stops despite your overcondfidence.

ABS actually stops the car faster... i learned (and now i forgot it...) this in physics.. it has something to do with the fact that in every frame of second, both surface (wheels & road) are "stopped" compared to when the wheels lock up and skid...and that means one surface is still moving... ahgh, something like that.

but, again, ABS does shorten the braking distance. - i'll try to back my story up.

There's only one situation where ABS can increase braking distance and that's where the road surface is loose and can begin to build up in front of a locked wheel, e.g., gravel road. Even in such situations, ABS will still allow the car to be steered.

Do you have any documentation for other situations where ABS increases braking distances?

Ouch....that sucks...

But like people have said, the TCS plays no part in preventing a slide. You're on your own for that. It's job is to prevent the tires from loosing traction during acceleration.

Snow tires are highly recommended for driving in the snow.

And Pure Adrenaline, unless you're an experienced racer, ABS will decrease your stopping distance. If you've ever driven a car without ABS and locked up the brakes, you'll understand. Without ABS, if you lock the brakes, there is not enough friction between the tire and the road to stop your car and you will slide great distances.

i would have ABS is any circumstances

it was kinda scary that my corolla loaner doesn't have ABS and the stability is poor when braking

TCS only helps when accelarting not stppping. Thats what ABS is for. You should alsa use common sense when stopping on snow. You basically stopping on a ice cube.

You really can't blame the cars computers systems for you sliding in the snow. Even in the snow, if the ABS kicks in or if you just yank the ebrake and skid, you are going to slide, you have to drive knowing that. When your in the snow, it becomes a lot more driver then car I think.

I don't know how old you are, but yeah, let's argue with age differences. Because that directly dictates the driving skills of each individual.

I've owned cars with and without ABS, and I honestly prefer the absence of ABS. Sure, call me overconfident. I don't think I am, but that's just your opinion of me, who you don't even know anything about.

Save my butt in the rain or snow... Yeah, we got plenty of that up here in Michigan, and I learned through snowy winters and rainy summers. I got into two fender benders because I couldn't stop in the snow (ok, here comes the obligatory "Then you shouldn't have been following too closely"). That was with a car with ABS. The cars I've owned without ABS, I've never had accidents due to failure to stop within time.

So yeah, I don't care if you call me overconfident, or attack me simply because of my age. You didn't even ask for my reasoning behind my statement, and you simply went off on the fact that I'm 22. I don't care if you're a 50-year-old veteran race car driver -- more power to you. But my OWN PERSONAL preference is no ABS.

When my steering wheel locks up because of no ABS and crash, I'll make sure to post it. Then you can say "I told you" all you want. I'll take it. But for now, don't just attack my statements/preference solely based on my age. I wonder what your argument would've been, if my age were not listed under my user name.

I'm 54 and you sounded just like my son. Sorry, but ABS still is the shitz IMHO. IT saves lives and injuries and it will even allow a 22 year old Mario Andretti to be a better and safer driver. Keep it between the lines!!!!!!!!

If you know how to drive properly without ABS, more power to you. The unfortunate reality is that the majority of drivers do not know how to drive a car without ABS and thus get themselves into serious trouble.

And if you don't like ABS, there was a way to disable it in the Integras, which I'm guessing might work for the recent cars as well. Set the e-brake one or two clicks and then proceed to drive at about 15mph for around 30 seconds. You will see the ABS light come on, which means that the ABS has been disabled. This will allow you to drive the car without ABS. You will however have to repeat this everytime you restart the car to disable the ABS.

Even with all the electronic gismos in the world you can't re write the rules of physics.

Sorry about the fender bender!

As for the dope who said f**k ABS, you've got allot to learn. Even race cars use it when the rules permit.

I'll make a note of it.

louisn --

I'm no Mario Andretti, and I certainly don't drive like one. Yeah, I have fun wth my cars sometimes, but I already "keep it between the lines." I understand that ABS saves lives and helps avoid crashes and whatnot. I am not arguing with that. I know it does. But "I" don't like it. Yeah, it's helped me a couple of times, I'll admit, but the results of the negatives effects have been quite costly for me and severely outweigh the few times it's helped me. And in those situations where it did help, I'm quite certain that I could've controlled my way out of the situation.

Honestly, everyone, I'm not trying to sound like an overconfident teenager. I'm no race car driver, but I know I can drive better than most people out there. It's my PERSONAL preference that I don't like ABS. I don't try to convince you guys into being anti-ABS, so don't try to convince/argue with me into pro-ABS.

Forget about telling him how to drive, because at 22 years old he is the best out there Hell, ABS even got him out of some jams, you have to be a great driver not to have them, right, that what he's telling us

When I was 18 yrs old I spent $990 on ABS. (Was an option on my 1988 Supra). Worth every cent. Won't have a car without it.

IMHO there shouldnt be a car without abs, ive driven 3 differnt cars over a couple years.
1 85 MB 300D no technology at all. that thing was dangerous to drive while raining. the one real panic stop i had to do i had to get a set of new tires 250$ on cheap tires gone to waste, just because i locked and the tires got uneven!

2 96 isuzu rodeo abs on the rear tires only, i had 275/70/r15 tires my brakes werent strong enough to make the truck skid in dry hot times. in rainy times its a whole differnt story

3 2k tl i love it brakes awesome full abs ive avoided one accident that it was a for sure thing due to me having full control of the car while braking @ 100% i wouldnt have it any other way... now with the BBK kit it does miracles
