side airbag

I noticed that since our side airbags are hidden under the leather surface. What will happen after it deploys? Do we need to change the whole seat or the dealer will sew up the rip leather?? Of course I don't want that to happen to anyone and myself, but just wondering

When side air bag deployed, the Seat Cushion Cover needs to be replaced. Also, interior shock sensor, SRS module, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bag unit need to be replace, of course.

If your side airbag goes off, the seatcover is going to be the least of your worries...

I know the '02 TL-Ss definitely have them for the front. Can't say about other models/years though.

Most of newer year vehicles have pretensioners equipped on the seatbelts or have pretensioned seatbelts. During the collision, the seatbelt pretensioner helps to protect the driver & passenger by locking the seatbelts.

I think only the 2002 model have front seat belt pretensioner with load limiter. The 2001 and older models don't, including driver side 2-stage front airbag. Correct me if I am wrong.

When I went with my ex-girlfriend a few months ago to purchase a Toyota Corolla for her, the sales guy loved my TL-S but told my ex that the Corollas have the seatbelt pretensioner but not in the TL-S. I didn't know so I didn't comment. I checked the manual briefly and also the window sticker for my TL-S and I didn't see anything that menetioned seatbelt pretensioner. Maybe I should call the dealer and clarify this matter.

Anyone have a picture of a TL after the side air bags have been deployed? I am also curious to see what the passenger and drivers side airbags look like once they are deployed.

I feel safer when I know how they deploy. I know it doesn't make much sense but it calms the mind

Just put a pillow cushion between you and the door. Voila

About phantom's TL-S, don't worry all 2002 TL and TL-S have pretensioner with load limiter (front). I just check with the 2002 catalog. I am wrong on one thing tough, 2001 and older models do have load limiter for front seatbelts, but not pretensioner.

When I had my 92 Accord with driver airbag only, I always told my friends to bring along a folded blanket. It works the sameas a airbag
