Side Air Bag Light???

2001 3.2 TL - My side air bag light turns on and off once in a while when I have a passenger sitting in the passenger front seat.

Does anyone else have this happen, and is this normal??? Please help. Thanks

I have a 2002 TLS and it happens every now and then. Make sure your passenger is sitting upright in the seat. There are weight sensors in the seat bottom and position sensors on the seat back which detect if the passenger is slumping over.

Same here I own a 2002 tls and the airbag light came on once, while I had a passenger in the front. I'm not worried.

Thanks Guys! I appreciate the feedback. The acura dealership confirmed that the light is normal when passengers are leaning or slumping.

The FAQ page is handy. Thanks for referring me to it.

To give you a little technical background, your TL is equipped with an OPDS (occupant position detection sensor) in the passenger side front seat. If the sensor detects a load on the bottom of the seat but not the back (a child, small adult, or cargo). the air bag will be deactivated. This is why the side air bag light comes on when your passenger is leaning forward.
