Sick idea

What do you guys think if i went with a 2.25 inch pipe from the cat to a single muffler in the middle, out to the Y with no muffler with pipes on both sides and the tips. It would be the same exhaust bu with one muffler and dual outlets. How do you think i would fare torque wise, do you think it would make much of a difference. I am just trying to see whats up. Because me and a friend are gonna be using my car as a guinea pig for some things now.

no, it'd still be dual outlet on both sides... so he's saying instead of 2 mufflers, he's gonna use one. I haven't even thought about it, bigman, but I dont think you'll lose any torque at all... The muffler should put as much back pressure as the y pipe I think...

Well, I cant really say anything about this, cause I dont know jack **** about exhaust systems. I'd say if you think you can swing it, and ask some exhaust specialists their opinions, then go for it. I guess it would be a first.... but yea, go ahead and try it.

i think thatd be pretty sick...kinda like the straight pipes on muscle cars only with a muffler....i cvouldnt imagine not having mufflers under the bumper tho...i cant decide if it would look good or weird...anyway..is there room for a muffler under the car?...i think it would be a nice experiment...maybe you could have it dynoed before and after to see the outcome..its a nice idea...oh..and if your planning on selling your old exhaust system...id be intrested

What about side exhaust??? been thinking about this for a while... woudlent bee all that hard to reroute the pipes to come out the back of the side skirts.... like mustang cobra. would look sweet.

fo sure i seen dummy pipes on some civics ( no muffler just the tip) to make it look like it was dual and it looked like cr@p i wouldnt do it but now with the side exhaust that is diffrent.... if you have a side skirt and you were able to make it all fit (before the back tire and near the back door) that would look pretty crazy....

it would look ok coming out the back, because the car has a skirt and the mufflers and piping are all pretty much hidden from behind the skirt, think about the mustand that has the pipes coming al;l the way back, looks mean as hell. Also i was thinking side exhaust but not out underneath the door, out right behind the rear wheel under neath the skirt. When they were ben ding my pipes they showed me what it would look like, and it looked sick

ive thought about doing the same thing only getting a in 1 out 2 muffler and running 2 2 1/2 pipes out the back (1 on each side).

Bigman:

Good diagram of your current exhaust system. Quick question for you: in your current exhaust system, are you using 2.25 inch pipe from the headers all the way to the mufflers? That's what it looks like from your diagram. And you are saying that you are getting lots of HP/torque? I assume you still have your catalytic coverter?
