Should I get some Silverstars?

I know nothing about lighting, all the lights on my car are stock. I don't want to go lighting crazy and get fogs and all sorts of stuff like that, but I would like to replace the highbeams with something a bit more powerful. Are Silverstars any good? I don't want to pay out my ass for PIAAs or anything, just want some nice high beam bulbs. How do they compliment the lowbeams?

I think they were about $30 a pair at AutoZone.
Is there anywhere that sells PIAA products off the shelf? Buying stuff online is not my thing.

take my advice, silverstars are garbage. I paid 50 CDN for the pair, and they are just as yellow as the stock bulbs. If you want a steal of a deal, go for the eaglite fogs. I heard that they are one of the closest matches to our HID's, and they go for 15 USD for the pair. Best deal around IMO.

good luck.

trust me, stay away from the sylvania's, they're crap.

i have the silverstars. got them for like 24.99. i like them better than piaa just for the fact they last ALOT longer. every piaa i have ever owned has only lasted around 6-8 months and at 60 something a pair its a little pricy to be replacing that often

well my .02 c worth....
Installed Sylvania SS in my fogs .. love them whiter and brighter than stock.
As for the day time runners/high beams.
Since the same bulb does both jobs, in DTR mode the voltage is much lower thus the bulb appears stock yellow. In high beam, full power is on and you get the best of the bulb.

what planet are you from??? Whiter and brighter than stock? I'll agree with maybe the brighter part, which is impossible since they are identical in voltage, thus the output is the same, but the whiter part is a crock of sh!t IMO. I have the SS on right now, and they are as yellow as the stock bulbs. They appear a tad whiter if you see the car in the reflection of a glass door or sumthin like that, but if you look at the car straight on, they are as yellow as my stock bulbs.

Just take one look at my gallery and see my PIAAs, the picture will tell the story. BTW, I tried (like a fool) those Sylverstars knowing that I always use PIAAs, what a POS, I took them back right after I tested them in the parking at the store. Do a little search on this subject, it's been discussed many times before.

Ok... I'll try this again
1- the fogs...I still believe the SS are whiter and brighter than stock. period.

2- The Day time runner/ high beams.
I installed the SS in them also. Since the same bulb handles both jobs, the d.t.r. have to be dimmer, so the voltage in lowered in that instance, -you get the yellow light-. Click on the high beams and you get full power on the same bulb.
I think they are good good bang for the buck.

KOBA!!!! Lasts long and are hella bright. 27 bux including shipped on ebay for both fogs and high beams. Real happy with output. Check out my photo album. They are the closest I have and there is no real difference between the HID and them. No yellow, white with a slight tint of blue. I've used the Silverstars and the Cool Blue(False advertising) from sylvania. Doesn't even come close.
