Silverstar vs HalogenPlus headlights side by side
Silverstar vs HalogenPlus headlights side by side
Yeah, I know its been done 1000 times but I took the time to take pics.
One of my low beams (Sylvania Halogen Plus) burned out after like 4 months. Autozone is having a nice little sale on the Silverstars so I figured whats $10 extra and gave em a shot. I am pleasantly surprised, they are quite nice.
I know its not totally accurate since the HalogenPlus has been in there a few months. It really hasn't had much use though (broke my neck and didn't do any driving for most of that period) Now lets just see if they last a year...
Package says (Halogen plus -> Cool Blue -> Silverstar)
Bulbs, side by side

Head on: HalogenPlus left, Silverstar Right
Beam comparison: Silverstar left, HalogenPlus right

Only thing is, now the little side white lamps look dingy. I suppose some LEDs or something are my next purchase.

Nice...I might have to cop me a set of those. With the Silverstar dose it give your houseing that colored look or have a deep colored output. I dont have HID's so I dont want it to look like I'm fakin the funk buy putting in some colored bulbs.
I have also been interested in buying some Silverstars. Would you say they are white or just lighter in color than the standard yellow? I can't tell from the pictures as well as you can in person. Also, what would be the difference with the Silverstars and some ripoff's like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ULTRA...26459623QQrdZ1 ?
Sigye: The Silverstars are 4000ºK temp (the ebay ones say they're brighter at 6000°K). Just realize that in order to achieve a lower wavelength (bluish HID) they have to up the power to push the light the same viewing distance. Knock offs are notorious for upping the wattage and melting your housing, so beware.
Nautic: The housing looks just fine in them, clean, white, and shiney.
rajin: I probably would have picked up the PIAA super whites, but I needed a headlight quick. Autozone was open and the Silverstars were on sale relatively cheap.
I think they look good, and driving with them is noticably nicer than the OEMs or plain Halogens. If you're looking for a quick and easy replacement, they'll do. Otherwise research and do all the bulbs up front at once if you have the time and money.

For comparison, the Silverstar 9006s run at 55W where the ebay SUPER XENON SHAVED BALLS ALMOST NOT HID bulbs run at 100W.
100W burning for an hour is roughly 340 BTUs (I'm kinda drunk this could be off). Thats enough heat for a small room or closet enclosed in your lamp housing. Of course this is just math I'm sure people have stuck em in with no problem before. Take that you stupid calculator

I've had silverstars installed for about a year. Love the light they provide and nop troubles at all. When I put them in I was very careful not to touch the bulbs with my fingers. Always heard that can shorten bulb life on high power bulbs
Love em!

Love em!
Just a reminder:
These bulbs are notorious for having a very short life. They even state that on their website. I only run these in my explorer, but believe me I have learned to keep a spare set in the glovebox. Its actually starting to get irritating how often they blow, and for the price their getting expensive. They are able to get that bright white light from a halogen bulb by making the filiment very thin and small.

If you want your corners to match, get a pair of PIAA super white wedge bulbs, they match nicely. I have them in all my corners, and license plate bulbs.

my buddy is getting me some Xenon bulbs from his work for free

PIAA=big $, like 8O bucks at Cartoys. ( maybe cheaper online tho)
BUT..., someone told me that PIAA's have like a lifetime warrenty... You just send back the old ones and they send you a new one. That would be okay if you kept something on back up when they blow each time. And Silverstars are nice, for 40.00 , but yeah my average life expectancy for these bulbs has been about six months
