Post Shock Sensor Kick Ass!

installed the dual stage one since I couldn't find a single stage. for people who bought dual stage, hook both wire together so they'll trigger the alarm anyway. if you can't find one, Best Buy has them believe or not, but you have to go to the service department (installation place). It works really good and it's not hard to find or to do at all. For this kind of money, it's really worth it.

It's wired to the stock keyless entry system or aftermarket alarm?

it's wired to the factory alarm. I put the sensitivity to the most sensitive. I didn't really find a "wobbly" surface under the dash, so...

My friend and I installed them in our cars. Got a dual stage also, single ones are hard to find. I set the sensitivity to the highest also. It works perfect. I'm thinking about adding one under the hood near the lights, but to do that, it's recommended to add a diode (sp) to each sensor so they don't interfere and cancel each other out. I really don't want my headlights jacked... I think this might help a lot.

oh yeah, thanks for posting the instructions mr tl. They were a little confusing, but they definitely worked!

Best Buy should be the last place you want to go since they sell the dual stage for 40 bucks. but they do have them. if you a 5-wire one... I say just return it and get something else.
it took me 20 minutes to find all the wires and another 20 to get it done. the place I put it is near the console, there's a black tube, I attached the sensor on there.

You'd be better off strapping it to the clump of wires near the fuse box, it will respond better to shocks to the car. That's where we installed ours and it reponds very well to any hit.

We got our Audiovox dual stage sensors for $30 each from Boomer Mclouds in Norwalk.

Are the shock sensors actually $40 at Best Buy?

I'm 90% sure I'll be there. Bring the sensor and I'll do it for you while there. It takes about 10 minutes beginning to end if you know exactly what you're doing.

Why does it always happen in NE states!

Come over to the West Side and do a meet with us so we can install the shock sensors together!

I'll probably try to do it myself soon. Yall got no problems w/ the shock sensors so far?? Has it disabled any of the stock alarm features?

It hasn't changed any of the stock "features" not that there are many at all. The doors still lock and unlock and the alarm still goes off if you open the door when the alarm is set. I don't know what else our alarms do.

39.99 without tax. you should go to the service/installation place in the back of the building, they have the shock sensor itself.

Where is everybody buying these sensors? So far I read about 2 places: Best Buy and Boomer (don't really know what the last one is). Should I check Kragen, Pep Boys, Radio Shack? If you got it somewhere, please, post where... thanks

right now i need to find out if i can add a relay to the stock alarm so I can use the dual mode and have the warnaway. i think it should be possible. using the stock alarm beeper (beeps when you press lock twice) to allow that as a warn-away.. that would be cool.

warn away beep

UWTL, that sounds like a good idea putting a relay on the beeper to use it as a warn-away beep. If the beeper is just a simple two-terminal device that beeps when the circuit closes, this should be pretty easy to hook up. Use a relay with a two position switch that leaves the beeper connected like stock when the relay is not powered and connects it to +12V when it is powered. When the relay receives power (connect the relay ground to the shock sensor 1st stage trigger. The relay +12V should be connected to a constant source), it should activate the beeper for as long as the trigger lasts.
This may mean that the beep produced might be slightly longer than normal, but it all depends on the circuitry in the stock beeper, whether it is simply pulse sensitive or edge sensitive.

Maybe I'll give this a try too. Where is the stock beeper anyways?

wakko, there is a step by step FAQ i posted on the CL fourm. I think its having matintance this morning and should be up later. check on the homepage of www.acura-cl.com when its up. also please do NOT use the DEI sensor from bestbuy. I tried installing it on a couple cars and had too much problem. One being, if you have a constant tap/shock then it'll start ignoring the shocks. its part of a bulit in feature that sopose to be 'smart' and ignore things like thunder and other stuff but simply didn't work well w/ our factory alarm. the best ones I've seen so far are from www.autotoys.com there dual stage and have 2 leds showing when each stage is going off. also has a easy to control knob in the front. I've personally installed it on a tl/cl and the instructions are the same. and completed 5 cars w/ no problem.

Thanks to Bebber for all the info.

Bebber, from your post I am assuming you are refering to use a Normally Close Single Pole Single Throw (NO-SPST) relay. Cool idea . I've already started seaching for one online

Mr TL Do you know where the wires are for the stock beeper.??

There is one more thing to make sure. (which I'm sure you all thought of)
The stock beeper is connected to the door locks and there is logic (IC) which ensures that it is only powered the second time when we unlock the door from our remotes. Hence we have to tap into it (probably a relay) after this stage for the beeper to work. I am just guessing here but just thought I'd help out. It might be easier to just add an aftermarket chirp/siren as others have suggested.

Well, I was thinking of a standard 12V automotive relay which is a SPDT arrangement. Actually, one more thing that is required for the warning beep mod is that the relay should only be energized when the factory alarm is armed. If this is omitted, the beeper will beep all the time that you're driving the car since the shock sensor has no "off" switch. I figure you could use a signal that is active only when the alarm is armed, like the blinking led wire. Or you could tap into the ignition key sensor so that the warning beep will only activate when the key is removed from the ignition.

i'm interested in hooking up a shock sensor to my car as well, but it's a'98 accord v6 (our alarms should be similar,eh?). one thing i'd like to find out is if there's any way of disconnecting the headlights from the alarm, so when the alarm goes off only the parking lights flash and no headlights?? the reason i ask is b/c i don't want the hid lights to flash on and off repeatedly as it may harm itself...my alarm went off once and the repeated on/off blinking of my hid's gradually blinked blue..blue..blue..yellow..orange..orange..
i think the repeated high-voltage startup can damage the bulb...that's why i'm asking..
it should probably be easy(??), since arming and disarming the stock alarm only blinks the parking lights...and only when set off does the headlights blink...

Is there anyway to see the pictures? All I see are the icons. Is the forum fully up yet or should I wait a couple of days?
