Security Alarm Void Warranty?

hey guys girls... i wanted to ask does anyone know whether changing the factory alarm system to an aftermarket one like audiovox prestige or viper with the two way pagers would void my warranty? I've heard rumors about changing parts on the car and the dealerships wont take care of some parts of the car for free anymore. also will whoever who is installing my alarm system be taking out the factory system? or is the aftermarket jus an addon!? should i recieve anything back? any comments or advise would be greatly appreciated!!! by the way... i have a 03' tl-p!!! thanks!

Nope the installer should have no problem disabling the factory alarm. Very simple. And this will in no way affect your warranty.

So you have to carry two key fobs? Or was a dealer installed Audiovox integrated to work with your Acura Remote?

Cuz either way they should disable your factory alarm. Otherwise you would have to unlock the car 2x or else the alarm would go off.

Also a bunch of us in NY are getting it installed in Long Island, so if your interested you can get in on the good price, that we got. Also some of these guys have factory alarms installed by Acura that they are getting removed for the better ones at no extra charge. The Thread should be a few lines down.

Good Alarm, top of the line stuff from DEI. If you only cary one key fob your factory alarm was disabled as per proper install. Just curious how much was the install for the alarm with the sensor?

The factory alarm is not disabled. I only carry one keyfob. There is a special way to arm the factory with aftermarket alarm installed. (not with key but can be with key). The aftermarket alarm will disarm the factory when unlocking. But if i pop the trunk with aftermarket alarm and factory alarm armed, it will sound the horn.

According to the install manual (Menu 2-9) will disarm the factory if its armed.

I've installed my awhile ago, I think i've paid around $450.

I got my done about a week ago and the installer integrated the aftermaket and factory together. They both work and the aftermarket keyfob will arm and disarm both together, so I don't have to carry two fob

Does not void warranty

As long as the job is done right, you do not have to worry about warranty issues. I stress DONE RIGHT! You do not have to disable the factory alarm in order to install an aftermarket one. There is a factory disarm wire in the door that will disarm the alarm. If you cannot locate one, you can also use the key sense wire. It will do the same thing. If you go to a shop and they say they have to disarm your factory alarm...........................RUN! Run as fast as you can from that shop because they are not experienced or educated enough to work on your precious TL. Go to a reputable place that can show you what kind of work they do. Ask to see an alarm install on one of their vehicles and examine the work under the dash. If you see wires dangling everywhere and it looks like spaghetti fest, calmly tell the installler thanks, but no thanks you do not have any marinara sauce to put under your dash. If everything looks good, set up an appointment! I removed my old security light and replaced it with a blue one that is connected to my Clifford Matrix 3.5. As long as you have all your keys(3), ask for the installer to use the 555H bypass module instead of the 556U. That way you don't have to sacrifice losing a key to get your vehicle to start. Good luck and good hunting!

To mikelee

This is for mikelee. Take your alarm back to where you go it installed! It is totally unacceptable that an alarm goes off if you pop your trunk. There is an output that disables the factory alarm when you pop your trunk so you do not look like a jackass while it goes off. I am very upset at the fact that so many shops do such half ass work. No one takes pride in what they do anymore. I know that would not have left my shop if your alarm was doing that. It is an inconvenience for you that you should not have to deal with.

This only happens when I remote start / pop the trunk with factory alarm armed. But easy to disarm with aftermarket alarm. If I remember, there might be an option in the settings to disable it. But I'm not too worried about it. NYC living scare people away, letting them know i have a loud annoying alarm.

I have both my factory and my aftermarket alarm working at the same time...The guy at the Acura dealership was curious about it when I brought my car in last time the tranny dropped but said it didn't void the warranty.

very much true, they dont disable the factory, they make those two work together where the aftermaker is the primary, especially with Viper and Clifford, which is cool

Exactly how mine works. The only bad thing about it is that I carry around 2 keychains.
