seafoamed the 'ol TL

well i did some searches on how to seafoam my engine. i used some rubber tube ( i think it was the pcv valve). fed her half of the can of seafoam liquid and divided the other half into the engine oil and into the gas tank. i let it sit about 30 minutes before starting the car. i started the car and it was sputtering and soon a large cloud of white smoke was coming out of the tailpipes.

i drove off and the white smoke continued to come out. i was expecting alot more smoke then came out. from my readings in other posts there was "tons" of smoke. after 10 mins of driving there wasnt a trace of any smoke.

i took the car strait to get an oil change and it runs great. since i just got the oil changed i cant really tell if it made a difference, but it is running pretty smooth.

im going to try it on my girlfriend's 93 accord with 140k miles. btw i have 60k mi.

hey man,

yea, i used to do this regularly on my Maxima. But hey, question, can you take a picture of the line you ran the seafoam through? you say pcv, but i thought it should be the brake booster line, either way tho, can you take a pic for me?

glad to see it went well though... the accord will give off a lot more with 140k

SEA FOAM MOTOR TREATMENT for Gas Engine Applications

100% Pure Petroleum
Use in All Engines in All Seasons
2 Cycle, 4 Cycle, and Diesels
Treats 3 Critical Areas: Gas Tank, Fuel Systems, and Crankcase

Cleans fuel injectors
Cleans carburetor jets
Cleans carbon
Stabilizes fuels
Upper cylinder lube
Removes moisture in fuel
De-icer
Frees sticky lifters
Frees sticky rings
Removes moisture in oil
Cleans P.C.V. systems
Cleans catalytic converter odors
Oxygen sensor safe

How Many Mechanics Use SEA FOAM
In Tune-Up of 4 Cycle Gasoline Carbureted or Fuel Injected Engines
Autos, Trucks, and Tractors
With engine warm, slowly pour 1/3 to 1/2 pint through carburetor or throttle body throat. (If vehicle is port injected slowly pour SEA FOAM through direct manifold vacuum line that will feed all cylinders, possible sources are P.C.V. valve or brake booster line.) This will pull SEA FOAM down on top of the pistons and to the back of the intake valves to dissolve carbon. Turn ignition off. Restart engine after 5 minutes. If severe carbon build up is apparent, use more Sea Foam as previously directed. Make sure exhaust is well ventilated when using Sea Foam in these various ways as fumes will be extreme for a short time.
Pour 1/3 to 1/2 pint into oil crank case to clean rings, lifters, dirty parts and remove moisture.
Pour 1/3 to 1 full pint into fuel tank to clean injectors, carburetor jets, fuel lines and remove moisture.
Immediate Results: Smoother idle, increased R.P.M.'s better throttle response and improved performance. See label on can for detailed results for use in each area.
FUEL TANK, CARBURETOR, INJECTION and OIL CRANKCASE.

For Peak Performance, Use SEA FOAM Every 2,000 to 5,000 Miles

A 100% pure petroleum product for use in all gasoline and diesel type engines, both 2 and 4 cycle. OXYGEN SENSOR SAFE.
Cleans dirty engine parts internally by removing harmful gums, varnish and carbon. WORKS AND PERFORMS INSTANTLY.
Removes moisture from oil crankcases and fuel tanks.
Stabilizes and conditions fuels. Use for engine storage.
Cure hesitations, stalls, pings and rough idle due to carbon buildup.
Helps pass emissions test. EPA Registered.
When Used Thru Injection or Carburetor

Cleans carbon build up
Cleans intake valves and pistons
Gives smoother idle
Cleans catalytic converter odors
Cures hesitations and pings
Restores power and pickup
With warm engine running, SLOWLY poor 1/2 pint through carburator, throttle body or direct manifold vacuum line that will feed ALL CYLINDERS. Possible sources are P.C.V. valve or brake booster line. Turn ignition off. Restart engine after 5 minutes. Be sure exhaust is well ventilated. Fumes will be extreme for a short period of time.
For use in injector cleaning machines, use 50% SEA FOAM and 50% fuel.
Fill diesel filters with SEA FOAM to clean injectors fast.
When Added to Crankcase (Oil)

Frees sticky lifters and rings
Increases R.P.M.'s vacuum and compression
Cleans dirty parts
Removes moisture
Cleans PCV valve systems

One pint treats 10 quarts of oil (avg. 1 1/2 ounce per quart).

When Added to Fuel Tank
Cleans fuel injectors and carburetor jets
Cleans carbon as you drive
Lubricates upper cylinders
De-ices and removes moisture
Diesel full conditioner and anti gel
Stabilizes fuel
One pint treats 8-25 gallons of fuel (average 1 ounce per gallon).

In Injector Cleaning Machines

Add a 50/50 blend of fuel and SEA FOAM into injector cleaning machine. Run directly through the fuel rails to clean injectors fast. Add SEA FOAM to your fuel tank to clean injectors as you drive.

Enjoy

ok guys heres a few pics of my engine bay and the hose i used to feed the seafoam to the engine. the red arrows point to the hose.

the hose comes form the back of the engine, goes to a white clip on the firewall, then to another white clip. then it connects to some sensor thing below. the sensor assembly is held in by a flat piece of metal that goes into a rubber holder. when you pull it off you yank off the hose thats on the bottom. use that hose to suck up the half a canof sea foam.

do it slowly because u can stall out the car. it will sputter and vibrate, but she will be ok

it says you use sea foam every 2-5k miles, if that is recommended then would you have to get an oil change and change your spark plugs that often also? Changing oil that often would make sense, but I have read you should change oil 1500 miles after use for best results. the sprak plug issue doesn't make sense because who changes their spark plugs every 2-5k miles. I want to do this to my car and my wifes car today, if any can shed some light on my questions it would be appreciated.

it went very good, the first seamfoam in 100k. but yea, if you seafoam the crankcrase, do so about 1500 before you change oil, because you dont want the metal shavings and shit it cleans to keep getting flushed through the motor.

i highly suggest this to every tl owner

here are my list of questions.

1. do you have to change sparks plugs right away
2. do you have to change 02 sensor
3. can you pour sea foam into vacuum line that connects to your intake
4. how much does it cost for a pint of sea foam
5. which order to use sea foam(engine oil then gas tank then vacuum/brake booster line) or in a different order
6. is car on only when you are pouring into vacuum/brake booster line

any help will be appreciated.

well I did it. It bought 2 cans of sea foam and pured about 1/2 can into IM vacuum line show in picture above, then split the rest between oil and gas tank. Actually I ended up puring about a whole can in the gas tank, hell why not. I waited about 15mins and went for a spirited run and when I first took off there was a huge cloud of white smoke pouring out funny as hell looking in my rearview. It covered the entire road and you couldn't see the road behind me for a good 10secs, then smoke started to dissipate. car accelerated a little better than before, which was already very good with little hesitation if any. I did notice it was pulling a little harder too. I had a 1/2 tank of gas when I add the seafoam so I assume I should have been near the "E", do ypou think the sea foam will still work? I will fill up at Shell in a few mins.

i got screwed. after the "beefed up" tranny failed the 2nd time the asshole ed decided that they have spent toomuch money and time on my car. (yea i spent alota time saving up that 5 grand). so they said sorry we cant do anything more for you. i was heated. i filed a complaint with the department of agriculture (they handle mechanic shops). he wrotehis side of the story which consisted of lies and b/s, and that the warranty was void. bullshit. i still had like 9 k left on the 15k mile warranty. im going to take to small claims court.

as for my poor car, well it has a rebuild tranny from acura. it came with a 50k warranty and 5 years. not bad for a refurbished job.

^^ i paid like $5.xx for it

anyhows i seafoamed the TL today and thought it was pretty cool...i stalled the engine when i first dipped the vacuum line on the bottle lol!!!

but this being a 99 w/ 90,000mi (hit 90k yesterday) i definetly felt that the engine functioned much smoother....i gotta change the sparkplugs anyways so i'll sea-foam the TL next month and swap plugs

HIGHLY RECOMMENED even to those who'se mechanical skills are worse that those of a 5year-old...its a very simple task

It is recommended that you change the spark plugs after using seafoam because the carbon that is released might foul them up. I don't know if this is true for sure but have read this in a few different places.

I've SeaFoamed my car a couple times and never changed the plugs. I've gone over 10K miles since and haven't had a problem. I personally don't think you need to change the plugs after SF'ing.

Has anyone tried the seafoam "trans tune"? it says that it clears out valves and dries hydraulics it seems like it could smooth the shifting which after going 155k on the original fluid i could sure use it. I accidently bought a can of it the other day but im scared to use it...if it works as well as the original seafoam i may just go for it

Another thing recommended is to use products like this, or fuel injector cleaners just before an oil change. That way contaminants cleaned up, and byproducts that manage to get in your oil, are drained out along with the oil.

because spark plugs themselves can wear out. they loos their ability to produce a adiquit spark and sometimes all to gether loos the ability to spark corectly.
