Screwed up pinstripe

Hey, I have noticed that my WDP 2000 TL pinstripe is screwed up in one section. The bottom stripe must have slid up and merged into the top for 3 inches. This looks stupid. I have had the car for 6 months.

If I remove the pinstripes altogether will I be safe since the paint is white? Or should I try to fix the one section somehow?

Okay, I have been lurking on this forum for months now. Just want to say that you guys are great, and have helped in many ways. I think you saved me 150 on the cabin filter alone. Never changed after 53k miles by the original owner (tabs not cut).

no stripes

I think the curves on the TL are too elegant to mar with pinstripes. I don't think they look horrible, but I think they look WAY better without...especially is you have a bodykit...

I have a WDP 00TL and I got the painted stripe when I bought the car- I have the gold package (Main emblem on the grille, and trunk lid emblems- my stripe is gold and brown-it looks like a classy car. Tape stripes are garbage- if you're going to get a pinstripe, it should be painted on by a professional detailer.

naresh, what year is your TL. if its a few years old you will want to be EXTRA careful to not mess up the paint.

My TL is Y2000. It is White. I don't want to screw up the paint or leave residue.

Can anyone comment on this? Am I stuck, and should leave on the pinstripe, or should I get out the heat gun and go for it?

Yes, I agree 100% that the pinstripe should go, if I can get rid of it without any issues.

My plan is to use the heat gun and credit card approach. What should I use for the residue?

Can Meguiar's cleaner wax take of any residue?

THANKS for all your help. Every time I see a TL on the road now, I am extra nice and let it merge in since it could be one of you guys!

Agreed, I don't like pinstripes. I never understood why people paid $200-$300 to get painted pinstripes

I say get out the heat gun and goo gone!:tflamer:

I took some off a 4 year old Tafetta White Accord with no problem.

I used a regular blow drier to get it warm and pulled it off one section at at time.

After you get it all off, take some bug and tar remover and get the residual glue off.

Then wax the area real good and you are set.

Of course make sure that the car is washed first before you begin this whole process.

Our 02 TL also had a pinstripe and I immediately removed it using the above method. Looks a whole lot better without it IMHO.

Good luck.

I have been seriously considering pinstripes for quite some time. I'd probably already have them on if I could find a pro around here to paint them on.

No pinstripes! Pinstripes belong on a suit, not on a car!

Then I had it removed professionally. IMO, it looks a lot cleaner:

After much pleading and begging, I stopped my dealer from installing the pinstripes and drilling the front plates into my bumper. The car was right off the truck so I intercepted it before they "prepped it up" for me. I hate pinstripes. This is a good opportunity of you to get rid of them

I didn't even know that pinstriping was offered???...Not that I would have gotten it. In my opinion it is very 80's.

I think on a nice Type-S with a kit and wheels and everything, a pinstripe would look downright silly.

But if you have a stock TL-P and pinstripes are your taste (like they are mine), I say go for it.
