scratch remover?
I have a minor scratch on the hood while waxing my car. Is there a scratch remover that will take care of this problem? I tried a scratch remover forgot what brand and it didn't do sh*t! If anyone knows of a good one, please let me know. Thanks!

Recently, I posted a message about this caus I got a long scratch on the side of my car.
If by scratch, you mean other car's paint on yours, that is what I had. A black Eagle Talon left a long side mark on my car.
Solution : I tried Paint solvant, scratch remover product, and none of these seems to take the paint scratch off.
Here I come, the solution : Take hot water and scratch the mark off with your finger nails. The paint has to be warmed up first, and scratch gentlely. It takes time, but it works.
Now, if your scratch has gone deep in the car's paint, it is another problem.
Tell me if it works...
Later.

No offense but that's an awful idea man. If you scratch it off with your fingernails you get messed up fingernails, and you may scratch your own paint. Why not use hot water, soap, and a clay bar instead? That's the way to go about it.

Yep sure is. Actually what you normally use it for is to remove contaminants from paint to keep it from deteriorating and to prepare it for wax (removes all waxes etc). But paint is a contaminant...in fact I've heard of a lot of Body shops charging $300, taking the car to the back, then rubbing it with a Claybar and giving it back...

I have used about a half dozen different "scratch removers" over the years. Most were a waste of money.
The one that does the "Best Job" on the very soft and easily damaged TLS paint is Mequires Scratch X. That includes the soft plastic bumbers too!
Good Luck

Deep scratches into the paint color are another matter but most light scatches are in the clearcoat which is the last coat of course. This is good as they can be repaired pretty much. Light damage can be fixed by rubbing or carefully buffing with Meguires Swirl Remover. If the scratch is still visable it's deeper into the clearcoat so some clear has to be removed - but don't freak as there is plenty of it for light repair purposes. Get some Meguires Fine Cut Cleaner and rub the scratch by hand - yes it will haze the clearcoat but when you follow that step with your swirl remover ( and then wax ) you should be back to perfect. The only caution is that over use of any product that "cuts" could go into the color coat which is FLAT paint, not glossy making things worse. Buffers are time savers but you don't want to leave them running on one spot as they'll overheat your finish and leave a burn mark. I've been doing it this way for ten years with an 80% sucess rate I guess. Using the Meguires numbering system Swirl Remover is #9 and Fine Cut Cleaner is #2. Hope this helps!
