Salvaging Navi from junkyards?

Has anyone successfully salvaged an Acura DVD Navi from a junkyard? I wonder if Acura will give us the security PIN if we recovered an operational Navi. This may be a good source of Navis for CD-ROM or hard disk-equipped TLs and CLs.

I would just want the screens. I think it would be next to impossible to take one out of a totalled car and then install it to factory specs in a non-navi tl. There is so much integration involved its not even funny, not to mention it would take forever to install

No, I meant to upgrade a non-DVD navi-equipped TL or CL to a DVD navi with 48-state coverage.

Hrmm...it <i>might</i> be possible, because all the wiring is there, but the actually wiring itself might be different. You would have to get the helm manual for the '99 as well as the 00+ to see if wiring is different, otherwise it should be easy. I would ask the dealer first just to see if there is any significant differences with the connectors, etc....

To sum up what I linked, it is 100% possible and I've done it myself in my friend's 99TL. The wiring is the same and it just plugs in.

If you ask the dealer they will say it's not possible and that you have to replace EVERYTHING. They say that because Acura tells them that. My dealer did it first, that's where I got the idea, except the NAV unit I'm selling isn't from a salvaged car.

What about the security code? Will Acura give you a hard time if it was taken from a salvage yard and then ask for the security code using its serial number?

I called my acura dealer, told them I bought a NAV unit, gave them the S/N and they gave me the code, no questions asked.

If you do go for it and have a problem, give me the S/N and I'll get the code for you. The service manager will help me-help you out.

Or you can buy the one from me and avoid the whole thing

So it is possible to put a non-nav CL/TL with Nav equipment from a different TL/CL? Wouldnt you have to change the heating cluster and all of that?

No what he is saying is switching the DVD based Navigation System from a 2000+ model into the older 99 TL. The older Nav System in a 99 TL or RL was not DVD. They changed to that on the 2000 TL.
