Rusting!! I dont think so!!

Yeah we all know how Honda/Acura did a ghetto job on our Mufflers, especially the gay ass Y pipe and its rusting that makes it look like ass!!! Well I finally got a chance to get some High Temp Flat Black Spray Paint and paint the Y Pipe. Its defenitely worth doing and came out good. Here are pics:

Another mod well worth doing!!

Great post!

Because of it, I got off my ass , bought a can of DH1602 and painted the crappy looking Y-pipe on my car too (it needed to be done for a LOOOONG time). I also touched up the stock mufflers too. A new exhaust system in a can!

Is it necessary for you to sand down the y-pipe first? Because I just sprayed over all the rust/crap..

I just took a pic of my car's Y-pipe. Maybe it's the lighting but mine came out more flat black(?). Masking off the suspension components was a beotch but I wanted to keep the rear swaybar "Eibach red".

TL Mugen its just the camera, mine came out like yours too, my camera sux or like ill TL said.. i suck with the digi's.

And ill TL ... I just know that sanding down any area before painting is customary. I dont see anything major happening if you dont sand it down. If anything you might have bumps in yoru paint job, but its underneat the car anyways so who cares. Or maybe if the rust wasn't sanded down, it could flake off after a while. Other than that, I dont see anythign that is going to happen.

So will the layer of paint actually stop the rust from forming, or will it just cover it up and make it look pretty while rust still develops underneath?

I painted my y-pipes last Nov. and just took a look at them today. The rust parts on my y-pipes did cause the hi-temp paint to flake off (just where the rust spots were) like Desi stated. But all you need to do is just re-spray it.

Salt is basically murder on our cars. Having grown up in the northeast, it was a shocker to see 10 year old cars in good shape and not rusting here in Oregon.

Good fix there

Mine took me about an hour or so, most of that time spent masking.

I didnt mask anything, since I didnt have any red sway bar or what not, I was just careful with the spray painting. Therefore sanding and painting 2-3 coats should take no more than half hour. Very simple. And ill TL i would, go back in there this time, after the paint dries up.. and kind of feel the pipe, after its cooled of course, and if you feel any bumps, then sand that portion down and re paint.
