Red face Rust on tips of Mugen exhaust

After spending big bucks I can't believe I have rust on the tips of my Mugen exhaust!

I love the exhausts but there shouldn't be rust after only a few months. The rust has formed in small spots right at the tip.

We do have alot of snow and slush right now but that shouldn't make a difference. Has anyone else experienced this and if so what is the best way to remove.

Don't have Mugen but I noticed my tips got really crappy - turned the chrome brown along the bottom edge of the lip. Can't even wash it off! Maybe some steel wool? I dunno.

Don't know if it makes a difference but I had my TL for a year and in snow etc. I don't go to the car wash so they don't spray cold water when the car is hot. I don't have rust yet. Maybe those car wash chemicals agitate the metal and make itt an easy target for rust.

You know that might be it. I recently changed where I get my car washed - maybe a month ago. The weather is really bad here and we have alot of salt on the road. I have to get the car washed regularly and I don't have time to do it myself.

I think I will try a different car wash and see.

thanks

Meguiar's makes a metal polish that will remove the rust and brighten the metal w/o damage or scratches. Good stuff!

It must be salt. In the winter-time, the best thing to do is bring it to a heated car wash and spray under the car, especially under the wheel wheels.
I also heard during the the winter-time it is a good idea to apply some car wax on the exhaust, it protects it from salt and dirt.
