Rust proofing
I just bought a pair of 3A tips. I read on a thread that it's a good idea to spray the bolts with rust proofing spray. Is that really necessary? And if so, doesn't rust proofing spray come off under high temperature sooner or later? Isn't the only choice against rust on the exhaust would be like engine paint? The bolts probably will rust in like 10+ years. By then won't it be time for a new car anyways?

No, I live in FL and my bolts on the 3A exhaust rusted in a month's time. I spray it with WD40 everytime I do my monthly mega cleaning on my car. If you don't want the hassel, buy galvanized bolts from home depot or some hardware place.

How long before something metal depends on a lot of factors. Such as type of metal and envi conditions. If the bolts were stainless steel maybe it would take 10+ yrs to rust, but they aren't. So you get about a couple of months before it will start rusting on you. Getting Galvanized bolts will save you a lot of trouble since they are zinc plated, so they won't rust. (unless the zinc is scratched off)
