Warped at 13K, warped again at 28K. They replaced all the pads with the new "Acura specified" replacement pads and resurfaced all the rotors. It doesnt stop as well now.....

At 30,000 miles, I noticed my front rotors warping on my 2000 TL. I contacted all neighboring dealers in the NY, NJ area and only one dealer agreed to resurface the rotors under warranty. The Dealership is Bill Vince's Bridgewater Acura located in Bridgewater, NJ. Their service was absolutely great. I highly recommend taking a trip out there, especially for resurfacing the rotors under warranty.
Best of Luck.

bought my 02 TLS with 15000 miles on it, decided to do 115 going down the mountain and then slow to about 60 using the brakes. They warped until they cooled, but at about 40K I had another hard stop and warped them permanently. Replaced them with Wagners best and they seem to have held up better than stock till my current 70000 miles. The stock pads were untouched, but the rotors severely grooved. I think the factory pads are just a little too agressive for those rotors.

just had my rotors resurfaced today.........

After just owning my 00TL (32K) now for only a week I noticed the brake rotor pulse everyone has been discussing. So yesterday made an appointment and had the dealer resurface the rotors.
BTW the dealer installed new front pads, is this common for dealers to replace the front pads free of charge?

My 02 TL wrap at 25K, resurfaced by dealer free of charge and replaced the brake.

After 15k later it happened again, and this time dealer refused to fix it.

Angry rotor, steering, paint

have a 2000 tl, rotors warped at 23000, dealer resurfaced, at 27000 rotors warped dealer replaced with new. now have 51000 rotors warped again. sad to say dealer and acura do not seem to care. have installed new tire and have had wheels balanced two time after that and still have vibration in steering wheel.have not gone to dealer with this as i am not happy with dealer. 30000 mile service cost 460.00 for a few minor filters and oil.my paint job scratches so easily the car looks old, have complained since my 7500 mile service and every service since,( every 3500 miles, dealer does not believe in acura's service intervals.)

First time on this forum.. Glad I found it! I have a 02 TL-S. I too had the shakey steering wheel syndrome. Had the breaks resurfaced at 20,000 than the dealer replaced again at 23000. I have almost 25,000 miles now.. Each time dealer did brake job I got the whole, "(wink-wink) take it easy on the brakes next time ehe"

I never thought I was hard on the brakes at all. Thanks to this forums I'm learning I'm not alone. It maybe time for me to trade this puppy in on the new TL with the new brakes. I guess that's why they added that option to the 04..

Good Vibrations? No. My steering wheel began giving me free hand massages while braking at about 30,000 miles. Just had rotors resurfaced and pads replaced by dealer at 33,000 miles on 2002 TL-S. Dealer tried to charge me a "brake inspection fee" because "brakes are not covered by the warranty". Well, the short story is that they did end up doing the fix free of charge after a small amount of complaining on my part. Hard to believe that they will not acknowledge the issue.

Question Should I have both the pads and rotors replaced

Acura Canada has agreed to inspect my warped brakes (they turned the rotors already) to see if they will offer me a goodwill contribution to the repair. As the rotors have already been turned under warranty, I assume I should replace them.

My pads have a lot of life left, but I understand the O.E.M. pads are causing the warping of the rotors. Should I agree to pay for part of the cost to replace both?

I've got just about 30k on my '02 TL. I noticed a problem w/ the brakes about 2-3k ago. When I brought the car to my local dealership, they told me about the warped rotors and were all set to charge me $750 for a brake job. I obviously wouldn't spend that on a brake job and planned on getting a second opinion. At that time I saw the posts on this site and got the Service Bulletin print out and called the dealership. They gave me some BS that it was under warranty. After 1 call to Acura Customer Service, I got my car into the dealership and my rotor work was done under the warranty. I just hope this doesn't happen again.

dealer resurfaced mine at 27,000 miles , then a about 30,000 put new rotors on. they lasted less miles than original rotors, about 22,000 miles. am now about to try myself to fix problem, spoke to acura direct, they told me to keep all receipts on rotor repairs ,which seems to me that if enough owners keep complaining to them , and honda finally admits the mistake they made they may sell cars in the future. have not had problems like this since the late 60s- early 70s.
am sure the resale values are going down very fast.

Question Serramonte Acura Dealer workmanship

I brought my '99 TL in for 80K service. They told me my front brakes need replacing and that they need to surface my rotors. I said OK. I began noticing a bit of pulsating during braking after a month of driving. Now the pulsating movement is really noticable after 3 months of driving. I'm going to call the dealer up and ask if they would take a look at them and rework it with minimal charge. This is the first time I use this dealership. It maybe my last depending on their response.

Is it because they surface my rotors and cause them to warp or is it the new brake pads heating up the rotor too much that's causing them to warp. (cheap pads????)

I work at an Acura dealer in Chicago. We have installed Comptech rotors on cars with the repeated rotor warping. Acura pays for this if you ask. Sometimes they will just pays for the parts and you pay for labor or vise-versa. Each car is a different "case" if you will. Brakes are a wear item, so the dealer will review service history to determine corrective action. Usaully if you're still under warranty we will replace the rotors and sometimes pads. Out of warranty or close to it and out of luck!!!

What does it mean to have warped rotors? How can you tell if you have this problem?

Warped rotors means the rotor is "out of round". The rotor is not perfectly straight. Symptoms being a slight to heavy vibration when braking, usually at higher speeds. The vibration is felt in the brake pedal and or the steering wheel.

Anyone with experience with the new sport brakes on the 2004 TL manual 6 speed? Also it sounds like the automatic transmissions are problematic?

Horror Story

I own an 2003 Acura CL TypeS. At 18,000 they replaced the front rotors and breaks.
At 37,500 highway miles they found that both the front and back had to be replaced. This is after I installed 16" steel wheels with winter tires that were provided by Sunnyside Acura with the assurance that they would work fine, with no problems. Wheels were changed to standard tires in the spring.
I contacted Acura Client Services and they told me that because of the steel wheels, which are after market, they could not help. They say that because of my road conditions in NH, IE, road salt and dirt that caused the problem. I asked them why the card was sold here and they changed the subject to the steel wheels.
This matter is still in dispute and if Acura does not handle the problem I will file a complaint with the NH Attorney General's Office. If no luck there I would be interested in any Class Action Lawsuit that has been filed or might consider fileing one myself.
In short I have found the Acura experience as totally substandard and would not buy another one.
