Resonator removal????

Hi guys,

Just wondering what advantages I would have if I were to remove the resonator.

Are their any negative side effects?

And finally how would I go about removing it?

Thanx for the help in advance

Advantage:

- air flows slightly better to the engine
- sounds better
- cheaper than CAI/icebox
- Add a pipe from filter box to bumper for your own icebox

Disadvantage:

- air filter may get dirty quicker

How:

- Remove front bumper
- Remove resonator
(simple enough? )

Thanx Tatewaki...

Are there any hp gains at all from removing it? Any better throttle response or anything besides sound?

Slap on a K&N air filter and the car will feel more responsive when accelerating plus 1 to 2 HP

hp gain is close to nothing. Don't expect any.
Throttle response is better, but I also have a K&N in there after I removed it
This is mainly for sound, it doesn't do much otherwise

When you guys are talking about the K&N filter I'm assuming that you're talking just about the drop-in replacement filter and not a CAI or short-ram intake right?

Just K&N drop in...However, once the resonator is removed, you can use your imagination and fit a cone filter under the air bos

i took out the resonator put a k&n drop in in and cut the bottom out of the air box (the hole where the CAI goes through is right under it now feeding more of the cold air to the filter. sounds good too

if you take out your air filter and air filter box and look down thats where your resonator is. to get at it you have to either take the front bumper cover off(easy) or do it from the wheel well and from underneath the car by removing some of the plasti guards

It quiets intake noise--removing it allows for freer airflow to the filter and more engine noise at wide open throttle.

In the second picture from the top, you can see the resonator. It's the black "box" on the driver side right behind the bumper.
