Reserve Tank
Reserve Tank
How big is our reserve tank, basically how many gallons we have left when our cars go on empty, because in the manual i think it says we have a 16 gallon tank, and everytime i fill it up when its on E it only takes 12.5 gallons or somewhere around there.
I never go higher than 14 gals when I'm running on fumes. For some reason 14.2 pops into my head...must have seen that at the pump sometime in the past.
Looooooooooooong time since I've gassed up the whole tank though

... the worst part is that V-power just shot up to 2.69 from 2.39 the other day.

Got like 312 on my last tank, about 24 mpg. Long commute, no traffic, running 70-80 on the highways. High Altitude too..... doing pretty good I think.... and no, I don't baby it, but then I am not testing my 0-60 speed from every light either.

Wooow 275? 423 miles from full to fumes on the turnpike going from Carlisle to Pittsburgh and back. I bet I could have stretched it to 500 if I didn't have Pgh traffic, asshats cutting me off, and all the hills.

Ohhh it's dark, scary and noisy in there...better slow down to a crawl, despite the signs that say "maintain speed."
i've gone about 50 miles on my reserve before (gas light on). i was a little nervous doing it, but i made it. my average gas mileage at that fill-up was ~26mpg that day. so figure 2 gallons in my reserve more or less. usually i get 30-32mpg on the highway, so you can go quite a ways with the gas light on.

The actual tank capacity is 17.17 gallons, but with the light just on, it will hold 13-14.
I get 320-340 before the light, and fill up at 370-390 (holds about 15.6 gallons)
This is 60/40 city/highway. Can do 450+ on the highway.

actual numbers from this fill up tonight.
329.9 miles
13.272 gallons
24.85 mpg
60/40 Highway/city
oh, and this is at high altitude too
dont like have my light come on, but maybe I will buy a gallon and carry it in the trunk and see how many I can go before I run out....

One of the things that drives me absoutely NUTS about this car is it's fuel tank.
It takes me FOREVER to fill it up. Most pump triggers cut off at about 2+ gallons
short of full. It then takes several minutes of click-click-click to get the last few gallons in.
Makes a BIG difference in tank range. Tank is rated for 18.5 gallons.
As for reserve I'd guess at 2.5 to 3 gallons. I get a reliable 50 or more miles after the
light goes on. I once almost got a full 18 gallons into it. Usually I don't let it go below
a gallon left.

I believe the owner's manual states to NOT "top off the tank." If I let it fill until the backflow stop kicks in, the needle is about 2 ticks below full....after a minute of driving it goes (what would appear to be) 2 ticks ABOVE full. Must be pressurizing.
