Reply On Brakes....

tHE BRAKES ON THE ACURA TL'S REALLY SUCKS!!!
I HAD THE BRAKES REPLACED AND ROTORS RESURFACED ON MY 03 REPLACED TWICE, ONCE AT 8K AND AGAIN AT 14K.

I THINK EVERYONE WITH BRAKE PROBLEM NEED TO DROP A COMPLAINT OR COMMENT IN THE SUGGESTION BOX TO ACURA OR THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT THIS PROBLEM!!

IF THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES WHO IS AT FAULT THE DRIVER OR THE MANUFACTURER??

DO NOT LET THESE DEALERS TELL YOU YOUR AT FAULT, THAT'S B*LL****.

malik,

I have 50k on mine and have not had to even change the pads. I am surprised that there is enough metal to resurface the rotors twice. I bet they never did it the first time and your new pads were ruined as a result.

There have been very few complaints on the board about brakes.

If it is a common problem then it is the fault of the manufacturer. Did they make you pay for these repairs ? Was it both F and R ?

I agree with roadman... there have been very few complaints about brakes. Not to say that there haven't been any... but not a lot at all.

That seems like a lot of brake replacement for so little miles. Are you driving the car hard? I have almost 24,500 miles and my brake pads still have a lot of life left on them.....

Question

Out of curiosity...

How do you check the brake pads on the front tires? I can't see anything since the calipers are in the way. The calipers on the rear tires face opposite from the ones in the front, so it's easy to tell...

Thanks in advance.

I didn't have to pay for these repairs, they were covered under warranty.

clc - took off the wheel and caliper and inspected the pads.

malik - paying or not (and I would hope it's covered )... it seems like a lot of repair work on such new brakes. We're just answering your question by saying that based on the feedback from the forum... it's unusual to have to have that service performed so often and so soon.

It was just the front brakes....

When i would press on the brakes from speeds of 65 mph and above i notice vibration in the steering wheel. This was from the rotors being warped.

Warped rotors can occur from other problems, not just hard braking.....

Oh I know.. I'm not saying it's hard braking or anything by you.... others have had problems of warped rotors, but not with such frequency. I wonder if the dealer is using Acura/Honda rotors....

Take off the front wheel and look at the very front side of the caliper. There's an inspection hole that you can look through and see the pads.

Did the vibration go away immediately after they resurfaced the rotors and put on new pads ? If not it could be an underinflated tire, need of a front end alignment or a bad front tire(bubble).

The problem may also be in your rear brakes, they may not be working and the entire load is on the fronts. My fronts are about equally as worn as my rear, what did they find with yours ?

Juniorbean could be right, they may be using cheap non-oem parts as replacements.

junoirbean,

Just to clarify... I should make sure the dealer is using OEM parts, acura/honda parts?

I don't think it would hurt to ask. You had your rotors resurfaced and pads replaced twice within 6,000 miles.. and all of that within the first 14,000 miles of ownership ..... something just doesn't seem right.
