Exclamation Replacing Headunit

I have a Pioneer Premier 6900 deck just laying around from my old car. I really wanted to put this into my 2000 TL because the stock radio doesn't read burnt Cd's. These are my plans, I want to change the head unit and retain the stock speakers and sub. I also in addition want to add 2 10" MTX sledgehammer subs.

The question is I want to know how the speakers will sound with the aftermarket deck will it sound better than stock and will it be louder than stock?? Also would I be able to keep the stock sub working with the aftermaket deck in addition to having the MTX subs put in.

I'm facing a really tough dilemma because I could also get a 2003 Head unit from my local junkyard.. and i'm stuck not knowing which one to go with. I love the sound quality of the stock system I really don't want to loose it and make it sound like a** with an aftermarket deck. If anyone could help me out making a decision of which deck to go with. Keep in mind im going for sound quality and loudness and making it sound just like stock.

The speakers will definitely sound a lot better with the aftermarket head unit. For improved sound though I would look at a set of components. I just put a set of Kicker components in my car and I was VERY impressed.

I do not think you can still have the stock sub working. I'm not sure though, I never have checked mine to see if it works because I put a sub in when I replaced the head unit. You honestly will not need to have the stock sub working if you put an aftermarket subwoofer in.

If I were you I would definitely put in the aftermarket head unit. I hated that mine could not play burnt CD's. I was very impressed with the quality and sound when I replaced the head unit. Now I'm not sure of the exact model of head unit that you have. But if it isn't too old you should see a big improvement in sound quality.

Hope this helps with everything…Good Luck

The Pioneer has one built in. Yes he will need an amp for the subs if that’s what you are referring to.

the only scary thing is that I heard alot of people complaining about the stock speakers sounding like crap with an aftermarket HU because Bose already amplifies them to the max.

I kept my stock speakers for 3-4 months after I put in head unit. Also ran my stock speakers with a 10" sub and they stood there ground.

You won't be dissapionted if you put in a aftermarket head unit. The speakers will sound a lot better then they did with the stock unit.
