Replacing Fliter!!

I bought a K&N filter, went to remove the old filter from my tl, and the freaking screws won't move at all. I grapped my electric screw driver, nothing. As anyone ran into this probelm before? And what tools did you use?

Thanks
Tony

I just dropped my K&N two weeks ago. I didn't have much problem unscrewing the screws with a philips screwdriver. Are you saying you can't get any turn on the screws or they won't come out? Because they don't come out completely, they stay on the filter lid.

I can't get any movement on the screw. I didn't know that they don't come compeletly out.......but yes, there is no movement. I am at work now, and wanted to do it while I was here. I'll make to wait then until I can use another tool at home

I'ts pretty Ironic. I bought my '99 TL with 35k and put in my new filter just a few weeks ago at 50k. I enjoy the K&N, kind of makes me use autostick more often.

I have a question, I think I am starting to notice the steering wheel shake a little, just a little, when I brake. did you replace your rotors or brake pads already?

I instaled my K&N last year on my '02 TL-P
barely had 4k on it and those screws were on tight...(factory)
really had to lean on the screw driver.. got a little snap and they were loose, and they dont come out.. they stay attached to the lid.

You are welcome

I got my pads/rotors replaced under warranty @ 25k miles - had the same problem. I have 2000 TL, around 30k now.

I usually take it easy on my brakes which may give reason for them not shaking the steering wheel. I haven't had that problem but when i do I will replace the pads and rotors. Maybe at 60k?

Yeah I'm originally from Buffalo but I am at school in Cincinnati. I'm still a diehard Bills fan though. I really hope they scold the Pats today. That would be so sweet, this is a huge game. Bills are best team on paper in offensively for the AFC.

Go Billies!

Did you wash your car after a long drive and the rotors are still hot? When the rotors are hot and you spray cold water on it, it will warp and give you that shaking feeling. Best thing to do is to turn your rotors if it's not too old.

yes, that should do the trick, and if for some odd reason you strip the bolt end of it.. i suggest using Craftsman's Screw Out, it goes on the end of a drill, those little bits work wonders

Sounds like the screws are seized. Use some WD-30.

I guess it's debatable to whether it does. Because if it does make it louder it isn't a thoroughly noticable difference and it only comes in at higher revs. I feel that it does but it shouldn't affect whether you go for it or not because it doesn't make the car any louder at cruising speeds.
