Replacement keys

I need to have two additional keys made for a 2002 3.2tl. The dealers want a fortune for keys securitysystem reprogramming . Is there any other way of getting additional keys made?

Thanks. JR

I think you can only get it from the dealer because of the chip in the key.

how much?

how much does the dealer want for a replacement set of keys? Sadly, I'm pretty sure you have no choice but to go through the dealer for it...

the remote i'm not too worried about. I might just pick up one on ebay for like $20.

But does anyone know if the ebay keys such as the one below work?

those keys should work fine.. i ordered a set off of ebay for my jeep which also has a chip in the key.. all you have to do is program it and those instructions should all be in the owners manual!

I dont think that instructions for programming the key are in the manual , that would mean any crook with a key could program it to steal your car , you have to get the key programmed at the delaer but not the remote. If you are tight with the dealer , they should just charge you for the key and not to program it , it takes less then 5 minutes to program , its the actual key that is expensive.

The list for a key is $20.78. Maybe a few bucks for cutting/rogramming. As long as you already have a programmed key for them to copy it's no big deal. If they have to reprogram the whole system, then it can get expensive.

I bought a blank key and had it programmed to use with my remote starter and I think I paid $25 total.

That's not too bad. THat's about the price of an ebay key. I'll try to call a dealer around and find out for sure.

thanks for the replies

Dealers in my area want about $28-30 a key, which I can live with. Butt hey want $60 to reprogram. That infuriates me because I don't see why it is necessary.

On a related matter. Thedealeralsowants $60 for a remote, which Ican get on ebay for $20. I've run across instructions for programming the remote yourself. Does this work?

1. Turn key to the on position
2. Press the lock button on key fob
3. Turn key to off position without taking out the key.

Repeat the above steps 3 more time. On the 3rd time, the door locks will click when you press the lock button on the key fob. Press the unlock button on the key fob and then the trunk release button. Turn the key off and take it out.
